I'm a novice sewer and hobbyist furniture painter. So, I'm making grommet curtains and a dust ruffle, a wooden fish mobile, and painting my old teenage bedroom furniture to use for the baby's room.
My partner is going to build a small box to go around the diaper changing pad. It will bolt to the back of on for the dresser so it can removed as baby gets older. I found a "poop deck" plate that's totally going to be bolted to it.
Here's some of the materials: The little fishes are made of wood and I plan to make a mobile from them.
Poop deck plate. Teehee!
Cotton slub material for curtains and dust ruffle... I got it for an extra 20% off with a newly created email address.
I don't have any pictures of the furniture on my phone as of present, but I'll share the before and afters later.
The old board had a weekly check in on Mondays and included 1. What you accomplished last week 2. What you were hoping to accomplish this week and 3. A get to know you question. I feel like one thread can get so long and I hate checking back on it, so I thought maybe it would be nice to do a check in of sorts.
Ok... sounds a little crazy, but I just found a tutorial on how to make maternity pants using granny panties! Ha ha ha ha - oh it made me laugh so hard, but what a great way to get a smooth over the belly band that you know is going to stay up! Excited to try it out! Can't wait for the looks in the check out line )
So excited because I had a productive weekend! Finally finished the liner on my pouf for the nursery!! Just need to finish crochetin, and I'm done! Looks good so far though!
Also sewed my first pair of maternity pants! These are for our hunting trip coming up in a couple of weeks... didn't get to make the panel like I wanted because the pants are actually men's and had an extremely long crotch area... would have had to cut out too much of the waistband and back pockets. But they turned out super comfy! Managed to keep the front pockets too, and with the adjustable sides, they fit now, and will still fit even if my belly grows a little by the time our hunt comes around. Excited to make the second pair now that I've got a better idea of how to do what I want. Yay progress!
I made matching quilts for our queen bed and her crib. I started from dying the fabric with indigo using shi nori techniques! It turned out pretty nice. She didn't care for it though, her favorite blanket is the pink fancy one someone gave to me at the baby shower. Lol!
I had to AW somewhere. This is DD's Halloween costume! Still have to hem the arms and legs and make some bows for her head and tail so she doesn't get called a boy all night. Still, she's a functional dinosaur if necessary
Yay crafty mamas! I LOVE crochet and I am hoping to take up knitting soon as I have always wanted to learn it. I made a few baby stuff for a girl when I thought I was having a girl, but I'll start over now with some new projects. I am still searching for a nice recipe for a baby blanket which I hope to make in grey/cream so if any of you got one to share I'll appreciate it!
Currently working on a sheep security blanket that I find adorable
NBR: almost done with my accent chair. I got a nasty old furniture set (couch, loveseat, and chair) for $85 at a yard sale. It was like new, except it's probably 40 years old. I brought them home, gave them a good wipe down, and started painting. It's gone from pukey green to taupe; I plan to paint the wooden spindles white and get new, decorative feet for it. The insides need another coat of paint as does the actual cushion, but I'm so excited!
@allaire314 I used latex interior paint and made my own fabric medium out of glycerin, which is in the candle-making section at hobby lobby. I used 1 part glycerine to 5 parts water, then 2 parts fabric medium/2parts paint/0.5-1 part water. I love the way it turned out, just took forever because I wanted a lighter, less bold color.
@allaire314 I have been telling myself that I want to crochet a pouf ever since I learned how to crochet 2 years ago. I even bought zpaghetti yarn but I always postponed it. Making one for the nursery is a great idea! Will have to make it my christmas holiday project lol.
@NachosAndPeaches that is so stinkin cute!! What a bummer it doesn't fit!!! What about a slit in the back with some elastic??
I used a larger pattern so cut it smaller and used a pretty large seam allowance. I guess I could unstitch it and re sew with a smaller seam and/or add elastic. But a seam ripper on fleece....yuck
He has a monster costume, I just really wanted him to be a "dog on a leash" so I could leash him with a purpose lol.
@NachosAndPeaches you are making me cry! Who knew I would miss stabilizer and embroidery thread on a peg board so much! I miss having a machine SO EFFING MUCH! I am dying with it coming to the holiday season and not being able to monogram and applique. Dang getting divorced and the machine belonging to my ex-MIL. Can I come visit and just pet your machine?
Have you looked on "sew sell it" on fb? A lot of people sell their PE770s when they upgrade to multi needles. (As opposed to me who just keeps it on her desk to collect dust "just in case").
@allaire314 I just hate sewing. This is about as sewing crafty as I get. Embroidery is a million times easier in my opinion. And of course I'd mess up when I make something I'm proud of!

I know! I wish I had a bump so bad, I may or may not have gotten that sully costume with a future pregnancy in mind! But even if I suck out right now I just look fat. Hahaha.

I just refinished an old dresser I picked up for free on the side of the road. I want a short long one for the nursery so I'm heading to an auction tomorrow. Fingers crossed ! Before photo I had sanded it a bit and pulled off the brass hardware The after turned out pretty good but it was time consuming. I didn't use chalk paint and I sealed it with poly.

I'm going to an estate sale tomorrow in hopes of finding more furniture! The dresser looks great - did you get new hardware or use the original?
