I have been having terrible back pains. I am barely 8 weeks. It almost feels like cramping. Is it something I should be worried about or is lower back pain normal?
I get verrrry low back pain, as in more like my tail bone. I wouldn't describe it as cramping, but I believe it's normal. The hormone relaxin makes our joints and muscles relax, which makes it easier to injure and overstrain yourself.
I have that! It can be unbearable at times. The other day at work I got up fast and my hip cracked so loud people around me heard.
It's this feeling like the bones are separating. I read that it's normal but I haven't spoken to the doctor yet. As soon as I do - I'll post what she says.
I had a rather sharp pain in my very lower back yesterday and today I've felt sore in that area. Like I've pulled something. I've had a bad back overall for a while though so I'm not sure what I should connect with pregnancy and what is just my horrible back. I have a doctors appointment later today so I'm going to mention it. We'll see what she says.
I'm almost 12 weeks but have been having back pain. From everything that I've read, it's common and normal. Here are two exercises that I've been doing that have helped me:
Definitely normal. I started sleeping with a pillow between my knees once my hips/lower back started aching and it helps immensely.
Edited because apparently words are difficult today. : /
11 weeks today, and I have been having lower and mid back pain. This night, I actually WOKE UP because of it.
I've already been to a physio.
Basically, she said: I have to do back exercises and really take good care of my back, otherwise I will be in trouble once I actually start getting really big.
Mine is really achy. I learned from last time to do a certain stretch which does really help. I'll try to explain it: go down on all fours, drop your arms and lay on them (I do this on the bed but it says to do it on the floor). Your butt will be in the air. Deep breathe for a few mintues. It gets the pressure off your lower back. Hope this helps.
ETA: I also sleep with a body pillow. I hug the body pillow with my arms and have a pillow between my legs while I sleep. It's helped me not wake up from back pain (peeing however is another story).

I am getting more and more upset about this back thing... yesterday when i was driving, I had to stop the car and get out for a few minutes as I could not even sit anymore ! This is insane. Probably not pregnancy related at all. But scary, as this won't improve when the pregnancy progresses. Sigh. Spent all day today in bed, not moving. Might have to start seeing a doctor about this.
This is so annoying.
With all the tiredness, exhaustion, and bloat, and moodswings, this is the last thing I needed.

So far, this has been anything but fun :-(
You might want to consider a chiropractor who can do adjustments on pregnant women.
If you don't already have a chiropractor, this website is a great resource to find one that specializes in care for pregnant women! As with any provider, make sure you are comfortable with them and good luck!!
If the back pain is low, near your tail bone, it could be your SI joints being affected by the relaxin. Mine are a mess right now and I have to be very careful running or weight lifting. I already had some scarring on one SI joint prior to this pregnancy, so I am being extra cautious about causing any more damage.
Definitely recommend a chirocpractor who also does deep tissue release for SI joint issues.
I also have been experiencing severe lower back pain since week 8... Not at week 12. I was living in Africa and they sent me back home last week (canada). I can't sit or stand for too long or the pain gets so bad that i end not not being able to walk properly... Dragging my left leg.. Really frustrated with my situation.. Hoping my obgyn can do my first sonagram tuesday and refer me to someone asap to deal with this pain.

It sucks so much, doesn't it. It really impacts EVERYTHING when your back hurts. I have no idea how I am supposed to go through a normal day at work (Desk job@) !
I truly hope your doc can sort you out. I could NOT fly anywhere right now, I am sure! I'd have to be hit over the head with something to know myself out.
I am trying a massage first, i think. Doctors here are pretty crap where I live, so not sure if it's worth the money. Might see a Chiro but I am scared ...
Fingers crossed for all of us poor back pain sufferers !!!
Feelinga bit better now... Saw the osteopath.. She realigned me... The pain is not totally gone but manageable... On good days I can drive and walk a few hours... Bad days... Flat on my back!
Same here.... maybe seeing the Chiropractor 2 a week does pay off (it's expensive enough!!!) i also spent some time in the pool every day, as it felt great for my back.
