June 2016 Moms

First time mom... opinion on lots of walking.

Hello... we have a trip planned next weekend to Disney world. I'll be 6w and just worried /wondering if a long day of sun & walking will be bad for me. I'm paranoid about everything seeing as to how this is my first pregnancy and don't feel pregnant...not really sure how pregnant should feel, but I think I feel too normal.

  • I'd definitely be sure to regularly apply sunscreen. I don't see why walking would cause any issues. If you were in your 3rd tri, I might worry about all the standing/being on your feet. You'll be fine!

  • If you aren't used to a lot of walking then you should expect to be sore, but that goes for anyone visiting Disney who isn't accustomed to excessive walking. I'd stretch in the morning/evening, drink a lot of extra water and plan some periods of rest for myself if I were going, but this is my 3rd baby so I know my limits.
If you really feel concerned you can always call your dr and see what he or she recommends for your comfort and safety.

You're going to have so much fun!

  • If its not a ton different from your current fitness level you should be fine. Walking isn't high impact or strenous. Ask you doctor at your next visit but I bet your good! I played volleyball until 32-33 weeks with my first and it went well.
  • Thank you so much for the feedback! I was really active (gym 3xs a week with a trainer for weight training) until I found out I was pregnant. I stopped going bc I didn't want to do anything that might cause any harm to the baby or me. I'm a Disney veteran so I know what to expect while at the parks. It's the pregnancy that's new territory ;)
  • Just drink lots of water & take breaks when you need to. You'll have a great time!
  • I ran a half marathon while preganant. You'll be fine just make sure to hydrate.
  • Unless you have some extenuating circumstances, there's no reason why walking around Disney world or continuing to work out regularly (if you're used to it) should harm you or the baby.
