Getting Ready

My husband and I are planning on trying to conceive at the end of the year (December). I have started taking prenatal vitamins, calcium, folic acid and DHA. I'm watching my diet and trying to eat healthier and have cut back on soda with water. I have a preconception visit planned at the end of the month. Now the waiting game begins. Anything I could be doing while waiting?

Have you begun temping yet? I haven't started personally since DH and I arn't TTC for awhile, but am researching everything I can get hands on. It is supposed to be a fantastic way of keeping an eye on when you're supposed to O. If you haven't already, it sounds like it is worth trying (unless you're thinking more of a NTNP route). Good luck!

  • If you are relaxed about TTC, I would probably just advise you to go with the flow, have lots of sex and try not to think to much about it.

But if you want to have more control over your TTC journey, I (and countless others on the Bump) would really recommend you to get the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It is very helpful to understand your body and when you are most fertile. Even if you choose not to temp after reading it.

I am temping my first month right now, and I was so happy to be able to verify that I ovulated! (I'm a big pessimist, so I was kinda expecting to find that I don't O). Highly recommended!

  • We're TTC in december too. This board is one way of killing a bit of time. Watching my countdown ticker is also proof that december is getting closer by lol. Our wedding is also in december, so since that is getting really close now it also makes the days go a lot faster because of the things we still have to do before our wedding.
We're not gonna start temping right away. I wake up a lot every night (my SO snores) and you need at least 3 hours of sleep. I doubt I'll think of temping in the middle of the night so I think that method will be less accurate for me. We'll just have a lot of sex (and a cold winter is helpful ;) ). Maybe after some months of not conceiving I'll give it a shot. But even I don't think of using that method right away it is still helpful to do some reading about it and other aspects of getting pregnant. So for me reading (also non-pregnancy/-baby things), quilting, watching movies, wedding stuff, visiting friends/family is a way to kill time until then.

Hi! First time responder (lurker for quite a few months). My DH and I are starting in December too. I'm spending the time until then getting to know my cycle. I'm irregular. I have thought about temping to get an idea but I work night shift, either 8 or 12 hours and I feel it is a little overwhelming. Eating right and trying to cross some things off your list (mine is getting the things around the house I want done before a baby could come) is a good way to be proactive. I understand how you feel! It's a little nerve racking even preparing to start. I can only imagine how it will be when the time comes. To much time to think of what can go wrong. Good luck to you and everyone else in this thread!
  • Hi, I'm not quite TTC yet, but hopefully will be soon. You mentioned a preconception appt? Is that with your regular physician or an OBGYN? I have my annual physical next month and was hoping to just talk things over with my regular dr.
  • I temped and used fertility friend to track. It was not only super cool to see that I ovulated, but also to learn to recognize other signs (CM & sex drive) that surrounded ovulation, made my FW very clear. Plus side: you are very confident with when to test, so you can avoid false negatives from testing too early!
