Pelvic resta

Is anyone else on or in previous pregnancies been on pelvic rest. I am 20 weeks and just had my us indicating that the placenta tip and cervix are close (though not attached). Doc said no heavy listing over 25 lbs, no rigorous exercise and no sex. I go for a follow up US at 28 weeks.

I have a two year old so he only challenging part for me is the lifting part.

Also I have concerns because my first daughter was a month early via c section bc of hypertension and low amniotic fluid, not sure if it could be related.

Finally on is worried about weight gain but now moderate exercise is out.

Trying not to stress

Re: Pelvic resta

  • DS1 and DS2 I had a few pelvic rest periods.  DS1 was due to placenta placement, which resolved.  DS2 was due to bleeding and premature contractions.  DS2 I had to do limited activities because anything brought on contractions - and I still was able to lift my then-2-year old.  With both I only gained 26/25 lbs, I didn't worry about low activity and weight gain - whatever happened happened. Thankfully with both I made it to full term.

  • I had to be on pelvic rest for the bulk of this first trimester. I still find myself shying away from too much lifting or activity. It's tough. But hang in there!

  • I've been on pelvic and complete bed rest since 11 week and 20 weeks now. I'm not supposed to lift at all, bend, no sex, no exercise, out of work and my doctor pretty much wants me not to move. I will be for remander of pregnancy. I have a large blood clot behind placenta, placenta previa and now because of the blood pooling from clot it's causing my placenta to slightly detache. I also have 3 kids. It's very hard but you'll quickly learn to adjust and learn your limitations. My doctor was also concerned about the weight gain because I have high blood pressure and being in bed all the time but there isn't much choice. They can't keep me in hospital till 24 weeks. It will be all worth it in end. Good luck to you.
  • I just got put on bed rest myself. Monday they found my cervix is short and funneling. On Wednesday I had a cerclage done. Now it's just stay off my feet as much as possible, no work, etc. until I'm cleared or baby is born. First goal is 24 weeks.
  • Thanks all! It sounds like pelvic rest is more common than I thought. I'm going to do my best until my next ultrasound bc really that is all I can do right?

Question for hose on full bed rest... My office job is vey much online based... I can easily work from home. Just curious to understand when they so "no work" does rhat just mean not going into work. If I can accomplish my work without going into the office and will not be stressed, is that okay? Dumb question I guess... I just want to be prepared should I come to that bridge
  • I think that would have to be between your doctor and you - and you will definitely need to get a doctors note for any kind of bed rest.  If he's ok with you sitting up in bed, then it should be fine.

  • Agreed. I would have your doctor clarify exactly what they mean. Mine doesn't want me going in to the office to work but doesn't necessarily mind me working on my laptop. Unfortunately, not much of my job can be done from home anymore. Part of the deciding factor is also stress levels and if the work would cause any so clarify with them everything your job entails.
  • Thanks! I def plan to inquire at my next appt... That's 4 weeks away. Mostly I just want to be sure my team is prepared if I am out earlier than anticipated.
  • I would think working from home especially with a labtop or being able to lay down and rest would be ok. Better ask doctor though to be safe. Now I'm a mail carrier (on foot) so my job was more physically demanding.
  • I'm on my second round of pelvic rest this pregnancy. Luckily my son is 22 pounds, I can't imagine not being able to pick him up. That must be hard! I hope you guys figure out a system that works good for you quickly :)
  • My daughter is right around 25 lb prob just a tad more. She's getting better at climbing so instead of lifting her entirely I just sort of guise her and give her a boost. We haven't been in the situation yet where she wants me to carry her but when we so then I'll have to get creative.
  • I'm a ftm I was put on pelvic rest at 18 weeks after my scan cause my placenta is low. But I have another ultrasound at 20 weeks to see how everything is.
  • Same situation here. At 19+2 my placenta isn't touching cervix, but low. Dr assumes it will move as everything grows. Getting checked at 21 weeks. Light duty until then.
