3rd Trimester

Clingy cat to wanting nothing to do with me!

My cat is my baby and she got even more attached after I was pregnant and she's been like that my whole 36 weeks until today. She's wanted barely anything to do with me other than play a little but she won't even lay with me on the couch and as soon as my husband got home she jumped in his lap and has been cuddling him! Which is unheard of in the year we've had her. I wonder what she's sensing

  • You've probably "slighted" her somehow in the past 24 hours. I love cats, but cattitude is real!

  • I wish I had an answer for you! My cat is slightly opposite; she was always needy and attention-seeking but wasn't much of a lap snuggler. Since my pregnancy, she's fascinated with my belly and likes to snuggle on my tummy all the time. I'm only 26 weeks, so it will be interesting to see how she changes as the baby gets nearer and finally arrives. Maybe it's just a blip and she'll come back around...give her time! Maybe she felt the baby kick and it scared her momentarily.
  • perhaps you should seek out a cat forum.. they might have an answer for you.

    This. lol
  • I asked my vet the same thing about my cat. Animals naturally know when another is pregnant and when they are about to go into labor. Your cat could be starting to give you space to "find a secluded area to get ready for birth". She said it could start happening hours to a few weeks before you start labor.
  • I think my Turnip is onto me. She's become very needy. Even more so than usual and her usual is pretty damn needy. I think they get pregnancy. Dogs certainly do. And she might be reacting to that. Of course, sneeze too loudly and they'll punish you for it. Cats are notorious for passive aggressive relationships :)
