3rd Trimester

35 weeks breech

I am 35 weeks pregnant and my baby just turned breech on Sunday. I felt a lot of pain and pressure when it happened. I had a dr appointment today and she said if he isn't turned by next week we will start the process to turn him from the outside. Just wondering if any of you have any experience with this. This is my 3rd pregnancy, my first 2 were natural births. Any input would be amazing.

  • I don't have any personal experience, but check out www.spinningbabies.com

  • There was a post on external versions very recently, try the search function for more responses. I believe many, but not all, of the people who had one said it was painful and ultimately unsuccessful, either because baby wouldn't turn, or turned back afterward.

    Both of these!
  • I did it. It hurt. It sucked. And it didn't work. I vowed not to even consider it for this pregnancy.
  • I do have a friend that had a successful external version.  She said it was more painful than actually birthing the baby (she did have an epidural when she birthed the baby, to be fair).

I think she wound up almost regretting it, because she wound up not going into labor on her own and had to be induced at 41.5 weeks.  The baby wasn't born until almost 48 hours after the induction started.  She did give birth vaginally, but it was quite an ordeal.

My baby was breech at a scan at 26 weeks but had turned at my 36 week follow up scan.  I had already decided before the 36 week scan that if she was still breech, I would be scheduling a C-Section for around 39 weeks.

  • My Dr recommended that Web site to me. I'm also going to go to a chiropractor she recommended to try the "webster technique". I really appreciate all the replies. <3

I had an unsuccessful (and yes, quite painful, sorry) ECV at 37 weeks with my first.  Wouldn't do it again.  BUT, I went to the chiro for Webster method a few days later, and sure enough he flipped that night!  I am a huge believer in Webster method because of my personal experience - try watching videos of it on youtube prior to going if you're at all nervous.  it's really more like a massage than an adjustment.

I'll just say that I tried all the other little tricks, spinning babies, ice packs, peppermint oil, etc prior to the ECV and those were unsuccessful for me.  I really believe the ligaments were too tight to allow him to turn properly and having that space freed up was what he needed to flip.  Good luck!
