Tell me about your short cervix experience

Long time lurker here but this is my first post.
All day Friday I was having contractions about 4 minutes apart so we went into labor and delivery and after an ultrasound it was found that I have a short cervix. I'm at 2.8cm so I'm not terribly far off the 3.5cm they like to see at 28weeks. We were monitored for about 4 hours and contractions stayed steady at every 4 minutes but I'm not dilated at all so I did not get anything to stop the contractions but they did give me the steroid shots to speed up baby's lung development.
We had to go back in last night for some more monitoring and another shot of steroids for baby but my contractions are down to 1 or 2 an hour and still no dilation. :)
I'm now on the progesterone suppositories and pelvic rest. I'm off work only because my job requires lot of lifting and strenuous activity.
I haven't been able to see my regular OB yet due to it being a weekend when everything happened and I'm not scheduled to see her again for another 2 weeks.
I've done a few searches on this topic but most threads are older so I'm just curios how many momma's with a short cervix made it to at least 37 weeks.

Re: Tell me about your short cervix experience

  • I have a short cervix as well and I'm 33 weeks 5 days and praying that I make it to 37 weeks because ive been having contractions but they are not regular
  • Loading the player...
  • My cervix had been measured at less then 3cms at my anatomy scan at 19+2. My doctor was concerned so I was given another ultrasound at 23+3 and my cervix measured longer then 4cms! I'm 29+1 and have been experiencing random contractions so I'm curious to see how far/ if I will be dilated when I get checked around 36weeks. :)
  • I recommend checking out the high-risk board. There are many with similar experiences. FWIW, I had contractions and a 2.8-ish cervix at 22 weeks... Then it got longer... Then dramatically shorter at 23+3 days, after being on progesterone suppositories and bed rest for over a week... So I had a cerclage put in. Thankfully, it went well and I'm now stable at 26 weeks. Perinatologist thinks I'll go full term. Best of luck to you; it's a dangerous predicament. I'm glad you went in to be checked out.
