Too early to start a registry?

I'll be 6 weeks Thursday.  I'm anxious to start a registry.  When have you all started registries in the past?  Also, there is a possibility of twins and we will find out Thursday, so I might wait until this to see if we will need double of some things.

Re: Too early to start a registry?

  • Last time I started mine after the anatomy scan and we knew the sex.  I do think it's a bit early, but whatever.  Do what you want.

Actually, I did start one a bit early but locked it down and made it private.  I kept it as a place to keep track of the big items as I researched them (car seat, stroller, etc...).

  • That's what I was thinking too.. I've already started doing research on big items and didn't want to forget what I really liked.  I just made a private one and when I research an item I'll just add it.
  • If you do a registry too early there's a good chance you'll have to redo it as companies update their lines or discontinue items. I had to update my registry as the pack n play I wanted was discontinued...
  • I mean, do whatever you want. Just be ready to have to update a lot of things, prints and styles get discontinued all of the time. When I was pregnant with DD I found a car seat in a color that I loved and 2 weeks later they had discontinued the print so I had to pick a different one. I definitely wouldn't go around sharing any registry info at this point though.

  • I haven't started mine yet and I am 7 weeks. However before I make any purchases I will start one and buy off my registry so I can add to the completion perks. I'm thinking I will probably start one before Black Friday. Just in case there are any amazing deals.

  • I would agree with @m6agua. Any major stuff we will probably add but make our registry private and then really register after the new year. I don't have energy to do it now, to be honest.
  • It would probably be easier right now to just make a wishlist on amazon of the things you really like so you can come back to them later when you're actually ready for a registry.

  • I think it is really early...but I don't really do anything until around 20 weeks or so.  I'm too superstitious and don't want to jinx it!

  • I might make a private wish list on amazon and wait to make an actual registry for when they have a deal like extra point or something similar. It's not a bad idea to start researching which car seat would work best for your car or pump if you plan of breastfeeding.
  • Like what some PPs have said, I started a wishlist on Amazon so I can just come back to it later when it's time to put the registry together.

  • I like things like registries.  I would probably start a list if it were my first time :-) Why not.  So you have to change some things or a quantity.  That's still fun ;)

  • We did ours with DS as soon as we found out it was a boy. I had to edit it a bunch and delete tons of stuff, but I like doing that kind of thing :)

  • I started a baby list private registry immediately. I'm using it basically as one might use Pinterest ...ha!

  • I think it's way early. A private Amazon wish list is one thing, but a public registry is another. You still have so much time. I probably won't do anything until 20 weeks (however this is my second pregnancy).
  • I think it is a personal choice and you should enjoy your pregnancy however you like. I had a previous loss at 11 weeks before this pregnancy so I am not really buying anything until probably well into the 2nd trimester.

  • I think I started around 14 weeks. I subscribed to Lucieslist.com and she was my lifesaver when it came to deciding what I needed and recommendations. I strongly suggest signing up for her emails!
