Cloth Diapering

Does anyone with cloth diapering experience have any tips or advice?

Re: Cloth Diapering

  • Depends on what type of diaper are you using or looking into. There are so many options. I use Grovia, hybrid, aios, and their new ONE diaper. I'd be glad to help if you tell me what you are interested in

I have one size pocket snaps diapers with bamboo inserts. I'm not sure of the brand I also have a couple gDiapers. What is your favorite brand?

  • We have Bum Genius AIOs and LOVE them. Husband likes the fact that he takes the diaper off, throws it in the wetbag with the reusable wipe, new diaper on and done. We have velcro for night and snaps for day. So easy and wash 2-3x a week. Couldn't ask for anything easier

We bought a bunch of different brands just to be able to find which ones we like best. So far the Grovia ONE is my favorite but it is bulky , so I use it at night time. I also like bum genius. Fuzzibunz first years are good for daytime, they are trim and I like the hemp inserts.
  • For wash routines: find out if you have hard water before starting .

If so you will need to use a water softener with each load (and NO extra rinses). You can use Calgon or borax for water softeners. Tide original is the best detergent for hard water. Use the recommended amount of detergent for a heavily soiled load of clothes (not 2 tablespoons like some cloth diapering companies recommend. Think about it.. There's poop and pee going on them things! Use plenty of soap!).
Gain is best for soft water, no softener needed for soft water. Remember that you don't use softener sheets in the dryer either.
Covers and inserts can be dried in the dryer, despite what you heard about it melting or ruining your diapers. It won't.

If you EBF, your diapers and inserts will remain yellow after washing (just like those precious outfits do when you have a blowout). Simply wash the diapers, and then set them outside in the sun (even a windowsill if it's too cold) and watch as the sun magically removes the stains! (You can also do this for those precious pooped on outfits! I'm working on one right now to prove to my DH it does work lol!

Buying used diapers? Do an RLR and bleach soak, then start out with a good wash routine to avoid issues!
