2nd Trimester

has anyone had to take the 3 hour glucose test?

I got the hour one test done on Friday and my Dr. Said I failed it being borderline she didn't say how many points....I've never tested borderline before with my past 3 pregnancies...so I was wondering what to expect at the 3 hour screening test and is there anything I can do to not fail it? I really don't like shots and am terrified of having to be checking my sugars throughout my pregnancy not only that but for my babies and myself health.TIA =)

Re: has anyone had to take the 3 hour glucose test?

  • My last pregnancy (also my 3rd) I was borderline and had to do the 3 hr test. I passed. I don't really have any tips on how to pass. I kept doing what I was doing as far as eating because if something was wrong, I would want to know. I hate needles but I made it and it was fine. They switched arms each time. In between times I was just hanging out in a waiting room. I brought books and stuff to keep me busy while I waited. I do hope I don't have to go through that again this time. GL but if you were borderline, I wouldn't worry too much!

  • My office only does the 3 hr test. I've heard it's more reliable than the one hour because of cases like yours. Good luck!
  • thank you ladies for your response I don't want to trick the test because I know that I can trick my body into not having it if I do I just want to make the best decision because I hear a lot of people to say to load up on carbs a day before but my doctor told me no eating 10 hours prior to my test I have to fast I hope they give me a room because I have really bad nausea and throw up set of me and was not eating anything and being poked 3 times I'm just nervous
  • I know that I can't trick my body*** sorry
  • I was borderline and just took the 3 hour test last Tuesday. I went in and they took my blood every hour so 4 times total. I had my own room and I brought my tablet and watched Netflix. They say you can get some sleep but don't count on it as every hospital wakes you up constantly lol. I ended up finding out today I passed so I'm so excited!!! Good luck to you hun!!!!
  • congrats for passing that horrible long test lol I'm so nervous for it since I've never had to deal with it in my past pregnancies I really hope they give me a room so I can pay down n at least see Netflix also. I'm trying to cut down on carbs as much as possible this week and just drink my water and juice as usual...thank you for your reply!!
  • I had the three hour with my second pregnancy and I passed. The tip I heard before I went in is to eat high protein, low-carb meals for the day or so leading up to it. If you eat a cinnamon roll or sugary cereal the morning of the test you are already going to have more sugar in your system than average and you body will work harder to process the extra sugar from the drink. I don't think you need to revamp your diet for weeks leading up to it, just do lots of water and high protein for breakfast that day.
  • I failed my one hour test with my first pregnancy but passed the three hour test. This time my midwife said to watch my eating a few days before the test, more veggies and high protein. Limit high carb and high sugar.
  • Just eat normally the day before, and avoid exuberant sweets. If you have it, you won't be able to do anything to "pass", so just hope you do! If not, a lot of people can manage GD with diet and not having to get daily shots or check sugars daily. If you alter your diet too much before the test, it could skew the results and end up hurting baby (and you!)

Source: failed the 1 hour last pregnancy, passed the 3 hour fine.
