My doctor said to cut with clippers if you need to. Just don't bite them off. Which is what I was told by a lot of people. IDK why to not bite them though. I can't file my LOs nails either.
I filed DD1's nails from birth to keep them short, DD2's are too soft. I use my own (very sharp) clippers because they work (safety ones frustrate me). I'm just careful to hold her finger firmly.
I just got these piyo-piyo nail scissors on Amazon and they are amazing! Rounded so you can't cut baby and sharp enough to trim nails but not too sharp. I used to be scared cutting his nails but not anymore.
I use a pair of baby clippers that came with a medi kit. I honestly don't even get how people can bite their nails, they're so tiny! I just wait for LO to go to sleep and clip them.
I don't get the baby biting nails either, it freaks me out whenever I try. I tried filing them as well but they were too soft so I had to just woman up and get the clippers out. I can't even handle my trimming my dog's nails so that felt like one of my biggest accomplishments of parenthood so far!
DH and I clip them together- one of us holds a flashlight and encourages! Haha
I've bitten them, though- it was between clippings and I don't know if I screwed up clipping or they were peeling but they'd already started so I gave them a little nibble.
You shouldn't bite baby's nails because it's unsanitary and you may introduce germs etc if you accidentally tear their skin.
The best time for me to clip my son's nails was after his bath while I nursed him. He wasn't squirmy and was focused on eating so I could get it done fairly quickly. I used the safety 1st scissors from a grooming kit I was gifted and never had issues.

Thanks folks. I have to admit that I posted this after an incident with the Safety 1st nail clippers: I clipped a tiny bit of skin, drew blood, and she wailed. I was being SOOO careful and had cut her finger nails many times before! I think I'll try the piyo-piyo scissors; thanks for the suggestion!
