Trouble TTC

Soy in my prenatals??

So it was time for me to reup my prenatals and as I was getting them I noticed a label on one that said "soy free", I have looked in the nutrient facts on them but I guess I never checked (or totally missed) that there was soy in the ingredients, I was a little surprised since I have read that soy isn't good for fertility. I am sure there is minimal soy in them to make a difference, but what do you go with, the ones that are soy and dairy free or ones that have dairy. Or do you have a prenatal that doesn't include either?? I buy my prenatals from whole foods, I buy a middle grade one since I'm not actually pregnant yet I don't want to drop $40 a month on the top prenatals since this is obviously taking a while, but let me know!

Re: Soy in my prenatals??

  • Oh good! Since we are on the topic of healthy prenatals, I want to hear the responses!! I can't answer your question, but I do want to find one with organic ingredients that are chewable ones or gummies. My last ones were so big I couldn't swallow them!! So I'll just sit and listen to all the ideas :)

JamieL31210  Most prenatals probably won't have soy, it will just say that on the label to market to people who are allergic/sensitive to soy. Soy is an interesting and controversial ingredient. It can be an estrogen precursor, so technically if you have estrogen deficiency issues it's not that bad of a thing to consume in it's whole food form. However if you are progesterone deficient then it will be something you want to avoid, so as not to feed into estrogen dominance. The form of soy is also important, is it a refined soy product or a whole food soy product (like tofu.) For the most part we can tolerate the whole food versions without ill- effects but it's the refined soy products that are problematic.

I like the smarty pants prenatal gummy vitamin, they have a new prenatal line and it is yummy tasting. Soy free, gluten free allergy free. they cost about $20 for a months supply and they are made in california. here is a link to amazon

    I hope that helps
