It can't hurt to try and to keep your skin moisturized, but it's mostly genetics that determines if you'll get stretch marks. I slathered myself in cocoa butter and coconut oil twice a day every day with my first and still got them at 6 or 7 months.
Same as PP. I tried every lotion and oil under the sun and I still have a belly FULL of nice big thick tiger stripes. Good thing is, DH loves them. Gross but sweet.
I used bio oil and was lucky enough not to get any with my first. I do think it's mostly genetic (My mom has very minimal as well) but don't think oil will hurt. Besides genetics I think staying hydrated from within is extremely important as well as gaining weight slowly. I gained exactly 20 lbs with my first but it was all through out my pregnancy. I know people who gained a lot one month and soon after had stretch marks.
I used bio oil for my first pregnancy and I had gotten one or two stretch marks. I thought for sure I would have more because 1.) my poor mother got SO many during her pregnancy and 2.) I was over due by almost 2 weeks. I'm hoping to have just as much luck with the bio oil this time around!!
It's genetics. Nothing you can do about it. My genes suck. My mom didn't get them so I'm guessing my dad's mom got them badly. I only gained 15 & was covered. 2nd time I gained at least 40but I guess damage was done & only got a couple more. The oil probably be nice when you start getting itchy from the skin stretching.
I used coconut oil and Mama Mio, which I loved, and had NO stretch marks with my previous 2 pregnancies but after delivery, they appeared everywhere I've read that it is genetics, just like previous posters said. But the oils do help a lot with the itching and making you feel better so go for it!
I just got a big old bottle of cocoa butter and never had any. I used it on my stomach twice daily from even before I started showing! Don't know if that helped or if I just didn't get them!

I used lots of cocoa better and oils every day. My stretch marks were plentiful.
I think that moisturizing can't hurt. And I would moisturizer as much as you can. I can't say it helped me. I can't say it didn't do anything. Because who knows - it could've been worse.
I plan to moisturize a lot again this time around. Fingers crossed they don't get worse. :-)
I am sure that would help, when I was pregnant with DD1 my MIL actually suggested rubbing baby oil on my belly each day, and after three babies I am still stretch mark free. I do think the baby oil played a role because my mom has pretty serious stretch marks. Definitely worth a shot! The other suggestion is to just make sure you are gaining weight at a healthy and steady rate rather than a bunch all at once. GL!

Re: Argan oil for stretchmarks?
I thought I had done okay, only had a handful (used bio oil, not as religiously as I could have), but the stretch marks more than doubled afterward.
