Babies on the Brain

GTKY Friday

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why?

(Not talking about a life time commitment here, could also be just for a shorter period).

Re: GTKY Friday

  • Somewhere warm- like in the Caribbean. I grew up in the northeast, so we get those tempting summers that suddenly get too warm and harsh winters that just mean difficult driving conditions and spending half my drive anywhere shivering. I'd like to live somewhere that has more moderate temperatures. Jamaica (our honeymoon destination) was nice, but I doubt living at a resort for a couple years is really feasible. :P

  • I would live on Bonaire, an island in the Caribbean. It's the most amazing place I've ever visited. Some of the best diving in the world, great food, amazing natural beauty, great people.
  • I would love to live in the wine country of Tuscany, Italy. I absolutely love the picturesque villages, the food and of course the wine. Preferably i would stay at some small winery in Montalcino, where they make the most amazing Brunello red wine.

However, I don't speak the language, and I suspect the daily chores at a winery might not be as pleasant as I imagine... But hey, the dream is still a good one! :-)
  • Oh my gosh, this is hard to answer!!

I lived in North Florida for two years and I would go back there in a heartbeat. I loved the endless live oaks and cypress forests, the springs and sinkholes, the fact that there were still seasons. To me, that environment made me feel like I was in a dreamy, half-sleeping state all the time. There is something kind of magical about it, the humidity, the stillness, the brightness of the sunshine, the smell of rain.

I would also love to live in a log cabin in the Canadian Rockies, with a big stone fireplace and a deck overlooking an expansive view. I love being snowed in with a roaring fire, and I also love summer in the mountains, because the evenings and mornings are so fresh and cool.

Lastly, I would also love to live in Paris. I'm in love with that city, and no matter how many times I go I still find it beautiful, and I still find the feeling of the historical weight thrilling.

This!!! But I think I would settle for a loooong Christmas holiday. I am definitely having snow and fireplace cravings right now! And some red wine in front of the fireplace.

Yes!! Actually the only reason why I couldn't live in Florida forever is because you just can't get the Christmas feeling down there! My favourite thing in the world is being curled up on the couch with a blanket, a crackling fire, a soft glow from a twinkling Christmas tree, fat snowflakes drifting down outside, and a steaming mug of mulled wine... Oh, hurry up and get here, Christmas!!
  • Hmmm.....Greek Islands. I love the culture is beautiful . ...I'll settle for just getting to go back some day. :)

  • The Texas hill country, somewhere around Austin. I LOVE it out there. We live in Houston. And I swear, if we could, I'd buy land and build a house out there. Sigh. DH's family is here in Houston though and with his work schedule and me having all my family on the west coast, I need to be close to his family and the friends I've made here in Houston so that I'm not alone. I don't mind Houston though...

  • I love, love Alaska and don't have any interest in leaving. However I would give living in Italy a chance; it looks so beautiful and vibrant.

I love Wisconsin, but my hubby is anxious to leave. I daydream about places I would live all of the time.

I think Montana would be nice. We are outdoorsy and I love the snow.

I love @EasterEggs description of Colorado above. I would gladly move there. I used to live in Utah, and absolutely loved the rocky's. Give me a snowy day, a warm blanket, my furry pets, and a view of of mountains any day!

Finland seems to have it figured out, so maybe I would live there. Especially to start a family between their baby boxes and the maternity leave I think it might be worth the distance from family.

  • If we're talking within the states, I'd like to live in NYC for a bit.  I'm a city girl, and I love New York.  BUT, if not there....I could DEFINITELY get used to Hawaii. A friend of mine lives out there and from what I've heard it's beautiful.  It's relaxing, and there's lots of places to go running and hiking. I've never been, but I am planning on making a trip out there one day.

  • I miss North Carolina. I used to live in the Smoky mountains and it was so beautiful.... Plus we had seasons which was great. I miss weaving baskets and eating muscadine....
As for outside the US I think somewhere in New Zealand would be nice, Fiji or maybe London.
  • Barcelona! Such a fun, vibrant, walkable city with awesome food. And let's not forget the sangria!
  • Another vote for Barcelona! That is one of our favorite vacation spots; little bit of everything from beach life to city life plus iberico ham! We also talk about Wellington, New Zealand, in a similar way too. Same city life and a different sort of coastal culture. Great local beers and an incredible free national musuem. I am so ready to retire!!
