Do your dogs know?

I know they say that dogs can sense when your pregnant, and my two won't let me sit alone this morning.. Anyone else have dogs that seem to know?

Re: Do your dogs know?

  • My dog was super snuggly earlier this week and laying on my belly :)
  • Loading the player...
  • Yup, H had even mentioned earlier this week that our dog has been a mama's girl lately. She always has to be laying next to me or on me, and last night I got up to pee and she followed me into the bathroom  :D
  • They keep pawing at me all the time. I'm pretty sure they know because my little one keeps sitting at my stomach.

  • @NLewis1 mine are the same. I haven't gone to the bathroom by myself in 7 years.
  • Mine has been super cuddly and weird to! Hes been laying closer to me and like nearly ploping himself down on me. Im sure he smells the difference but i dont think he knows what is going on exactly.
  • I'd never really gave much thought to this notion. But last night our dog came in and slept on the floor beside my side of the bed. That rarely happens. Is it the smell that clues them in?
  • Mine has been drastically more gentle.  Won't tug hard at all when we play.  Seems to be more careful not to step on me when climbing on the bed.  :)
  • If mines knows, she is certainly still having fun trying to step/jump/punch on my belly.
  • Mine is dumb then...lol.  No, he's sniffing me a lot more but otherwise he's his same ol' crazy self.
  • My female dog has been sniffing and giving my belly kisses lately. I saw a cute saying, "Dogs can tell you're pregnant, they just don't know how many puppies you are having." My Doberman has been upset because before I let him run and jump up in my lap like a little puppy before but now I won't let him because I'm more cautious and trying to train him for when my tummy gets bigger. He's a big mommas boy and doesn't like not sleeping on top of me.
  • I also wondered if my dog knows but she's super clingy all the time.
  • I don't have a dog but my cat won't leave me alone! He was already pretty clingy but this is nuts.
  • My dog has been laying on my tummy all week, and DH was like maybe he's trying to help you incubate the baby! I thought it was funny because my belly does seem a little warmer than normal...

  • Definitely. The non-cuddly one has been snuggling up to me on the couch in the evening. The annoying, barky one is even more barky. He barked the ENTIRE time I was teaching voice lessons yesterday. He did that when I was pregnant with DD, too. Good thing he's cute...

  • Same with us! We have a siamese snowshoe, Henry, and he refuses to leave me alone. He sleeps next to me in bed, he follows me to the bathroom and to the shower. He even sits in the laundry room and stairs out the window when DH and I are outside bbq'ing :) So I think dogs and cats can sense the changes.

  • I've heard that they don't necessarily know you're pregnant, but they can sense the hormone changes and know something is up. We have a 100lb pit mix that pretends he's a chihuahua, climbing in laps with no regard for personal space. he's been jumping into my lap a little more tenderly lately; he sneaks his way to my lap as opposed to throwing himself into it. :-)
  • With three dogs in my house, two of whom are super attentive to me in general, I was really hoping to see a noticeable reaction from them but thus far nothing.  My pits have always been snuggle bugs so when they do the head on the stomach thing it's not out of the ordinary.  Maybe they know, maybe not, but I can't tell.

  • Mine is a puppy and hasn't changed one bit. He is super clingy and active, so I have to make sure he doesn't jump on me! Haha, I guess he doesnt know. :p

  • I love this post. :-).

I don't think my dog has figured it out yet. Ha. I have a 2 yo at home that keeps him preoccupied.

During my first pregnancy, he also snuggled up near my belly at night until he didn't fit anymore. I'll be on the lookout for that.

  • My dogs are always pretty clingy. My little dog seems even more clingy to mommy lately, but I think it's in my head. :)

  • We think our pit knew before we did. He had always been a mommas boy and likes to be on my lap, but he wouldn't quit til I held him in my arms while working at my desk. He's definitely been clingier than usual
  • I don't have dogs, but my cats totally know! They have started snuggling up next to me and just putting one paw on my belly!
  • My rescue has always been glued to my side. It's ridiculous. She lays outside the shower and waits for me to turn the water off. But today my FIL brought his dog over (who we

My rescue also does this. He's also ALWAYS under my feet. He's a tripping hazard.

  • My big dog knows, he nuzzles my belly and is more protective of me...but more telling, is that my husbands cat (who is totally a daddy's girl) has decided I am her favorite, just like she did with my first pregnancy :) it's really cute, she has to lay right by my belly.
  • I have 3 dogs and they can not stop licking me! They are definitely more cuddly too :) I was hoping they would notice.

If they do I can't tell because they're always glued to me. But this is how they are right now:

  • Forgot to attach picture. There's q fourth one - our other dog - not in the pictures, she's to my right.

  • My dog must know something is up... Lately I've been waking to find our 100 pound pitbull cuddled right beside or parked directly underneath wherever I pass out at. Our Milly ushally only sleeps with my teenage son who we joke and say is his Lil sister/girlfriend. Usually she stays with him all night lately she stays with me until I fall asleep. Hubby says she puts me to bed before she goes yo bed.
  • My dog definitely knows! She's a super cuddly boxer lab that we rescued from North Carolina. With DS, she knew before my positive test. She would always lay her head on my belly and never used to do that before. She didn't like when he really started to move though. I was waiting to see how long it would take her with this little nugget, but this past week was it. She's been extra clingy and literally trying to get on top of me wherever I am sitting or laying. I love the snuggles, but I've been so hot lately that it makes me feel like I'm even more of a furnace!
  • I do not have dogs but I have two cats. With DS my one cat started sleeping in the litter box he did it twice. I googled it and it said they may do it because of emotional stress. I couldn't imagine what he was stressed over. Turned out I was pregnant. This time around I already knew I was pregnant when he started doing it again. This time, however, slept in it for a week straight. He must know what the outcome is going to be!
  • I have three cats and one is always with me at all times since I have become pregnant. The one is constant and he enjoys laying on belly. I think they know
  • I don't know if they know or not. But one of my kitties fell asleep like this today:

I looked so sweet. Like a peek into the future. :)

  • Our dog knew before we did. He was sniffing me way more than normal for three days. We found out later that week
  • I have a Yorkie and a Border Collie and I think they both know somethings up. They are both very protective and my Border Collie follows my every footstep here lately!
  • I feel like mine does too. He is following me everywhere and yesterday when I was really sick I looked outside and he puked. I feel like he will have sympathy pains and put on sympathy pounds at this rate. :)
