Working at a Daycare

Okay so I'm 34 and I've been working at a daycare for about 10 years.....and every since I can remember I wanted my own but with having PCOS....it's been a difficult journey.....but now after trying for 12 years my husband and I are expecting our first..(6w1d)......but my patience seems soooooo short now.....and it's making me afraid about how I'd interact with my little one.....I use to love this job....now I just wanna quit...! Anyone else out there works at a daycare and expecting and feeling this way...?? :-S

Re: Working at a Daycare

  • I don't work at a daycare but I definitely have less patience! I think it's a hormonal thing that'll settle closer to the second tri.

I went to teacher's college and my mentor teacher there told me that the most annoying time is when you have kids that are the same age as the ones you teach. Each age group has its own annoying quirks and it's tough to deal with them at work and at home.

  • I taught preschool for a few years and I work with children who have autism. It is totally normally to find your patience dwindling, especially when you have all these pregnancy hormones. I expressed similar concerns to my husband once before we were even pregnant with our first. I said, "I'm worried I'll lose my patience with our kids someday." His response was, "Of course you will. Every parent does" It was a good reality check. Kids are awesome, so fun, and yes, challenging. They will test your patience. Don't worry, you have what it takes to handle it with love and maturity. :)

  • Nah girl! I teach first grade and I have a son. I cannot freaking stand the kids in my class right now (even though I love those brats with all my heart..)
My son is completely different. I have not lost patience with him at all yet. Well, maybe once when he couldn't decide between wanting to be inside or outside. And another time when he pulled every single book off his bookshelf. Just wait till you meet that little thing. No matter how hard of a day I've had with my kids at work, I always always always feel better when I see my little mans face and him saying "mommeeee!" When I pick him up.
