On the fur babies question-- I
*do* think it's an apt comparison in many ways!

Mostly because if you can't handle taking care of a dog you sure as shit won't be able to handle a kid.

I sometimes worry that my life choice of being a cat person speaks to my unfitness for maternity. Thank goodness hubby is great with kids. He helped out for years at the daycare his grandmother ran, and he's so good with my sisters kiddos. So at least one of us will know what we're doing.

I totally agree about the dog part. I would imagine the transition to parenthood for someone who isn't willing to go home immediately after work to let their dog out or who just leaves their dog outside all the time would be harder than for someone who is used to factoring in their pet to their daily life. We had 5 dogs when we had our first kid, so we were already used to having to rearrange our schedule and work around them.

I like cats too and don't think cat lovers are any less fit mothers.

My boss does this ALL the time. She has two dogs. I have three dogs, two kids and another on the way. She has NO idea what she is talking about. Drives all of us moms at work absolutely crazy!
