Anyone else with a more firm pronounced upper belly?

my upper stomach is firmer and more pronounced than under my belly button. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything similar.

Re: Anyone else with a more firm pronounced upper belly?

  • I am not experiencing that this pregnancy, but with my first baby I carried super high...

  • I am! I also did with my last pregnancy 8 years ago, this pregnancy im starting off plus size but my last one i wasn't, I think everyone shows differently, I'm also quite short (4'11) with a very short torso. I wouldn't worry too much enjoy your pregnancy and your beautiful baby belly!
  • Me! My uterus is also sitting super high and when the tech did my u/s baby was right under my ribs it seemed already! This is how I usually carry though. I'm short and always carry high and way out front haha.

  • I do. I don't show very much because I'm heavier but the upper part is definately harder and more pronounced. I'm also short with a short torso.
  • Your placenta could also be sitting on top and be adding to the firmness you feel higher!

  • Yep. It's the same "roundness" on top and bottom, but the upper belly is MUCH firmer than the lower.

  • Definitely. The top of my belly is firm, round & high up, and underneath my belly button is much more flat.
  • Yes. It was very bad for DS2 and it stayed the same for this one. I think my abs separated with DS2 and healed weird and I never lost that hard upper stomach.

  • Mine is becoming firmer too, unfortunately. I normally do my insulin injections in my belly and since my lower belly has been sore I had been relying on my upper belly. Now that's getting too firm to use comfortably.
  • Yup, same problem here. I'm plus size pre-pregnancy, but baby is still very low as far as I know. My upper stomach is just getting rounder and hard as a rock lol.

  • I am! I'm very small, but carrying super high. My whole stomach looks big, but especially everything above my hips.
  • I'm with you. I'm 5' and there's just not much room for things to grow but out. I just feel like I look super unbalanced.
  • Me too. I seem to carry high.
  • I had a coworker say 'you're only 19 weeks' the other day, I am feeling and looking more like 6 months. I am having a similar hard tummy above the bellybutton but below my bellybutton is a bit softer sometimes. I am having lots of gas and digestive issues that makes me bloated most of the time which I think is contributing.... This is my first pregnancy so I don't really know what to expect from my body!
  • Not sure if this applies to everyone or just first-timers... At my last doctors appointment I commented about how firm and round I was up-top, being a first-timer I asked if I was carrying the baby really high. Doctor said no and that what I was feeling/noticing were my intestines and colon. She said it was baby 'pushing them up' and out of the way so baby could grow. She confirmed this by using the doppler well below my bellybutton and finding the heartbeat quickly. :)
  • I am carrying the same way and asked the doc. He said your bowels will run horizontal up there and will keep being pushed up by baby. He recommended stool softeners even if I do not think I need them to keep everything moving and not so much pressure in upper belly.
  • I'm exactly the same day. My baby is below my belly button but I'm hard on top. My doctor said that I'm feeling all my organs pushed up.
  • Yes!  I found it really strange, since I didn't notice this with my first, but under my bellybutton is still pretty soft and pudgy, and above my belly button is hard.  I figure its organs and fat rearranging itself in the only spot it has.
  • I am too.  I look very pregnant, but its all fat/organs pushed up by my baby below lol.

  • So high ! So I "look" more pregnant than I really am justs pushing 5 months along. A friend is about to give birth and I swear she is not much bigger, another friend is carrying "low" and her bump is far less noticeable - it's a little uncomfortable if I'm honest and my belly button has almost disappeared - it's gone from an "inny" to almost flat :/ I showed my husband today and he squirmed and joked that it was very strange !
