Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Clots?

Anyone experience clotting after a miscarriage?

I was going to the bathroom and a larger clot came out. I had a miscarriage last week and was induced and then a few days ago, the placenta was still not completely out so the dr put me on a med to help it. He said it is out now but then I get a clot like jelly piece come out. Is it just cleaning itself out still?

Thanks.

Re: Clots?

  • I had a d&c and experienced heavy clotting. It is normal. The only thing doctors worry ab is bleeding. If you are bleeding through a pad an hour, that is too much.

  • I clotted very heavily due to my D&C. Sorry or the TMI...but like pouring out of me!!II was passing golf ball sized clots and had to go to get an emergency ultrasound. My uterus was filled with blood. They tested one of the clots for products of conception tissue but none was there. I learned after having my Repeated Pregnancy Loss panel testings that I have 2 clotting disorders and I think it was due to that. One is MTHFR and that can cause clotting, and the 2nd is PAI-1 4g/4g which cannot break down clots once they form. So I am sure that my clotting issues had something to do with it. My case was pretty extreme, so I am not saying that you have these disorders too, but might be worth checking into. Sorry for your loss! :(

  • Yes, I believe it is just your uterus cleaning itself out. I had clots during the physical process of m/c-ing. I also had more clots during both of my post-loss periods so far. Nothing like during my actual loss, but still seeing small clots. As long as you're not bleeding heavily some clots are normal.

  • I continued to get small clots for months after my miscarriage. I had a final ultrasound and confirmed no rpoc but still continued to pass clots.

  • When I started a natural mc at home I had tons of blood and clots only to find out everything was still there had a d&c and hardly bleed at all afterwards. This last d&c I had no bleeding afterwards. I would say it's normal as long as it doesn't last longer than 2 weeks otherwise can be a sign of infection. Sorry for your loss.
  • I had a "natural miscarriage" I hate that term there is nothing natural about it. But I digress. Any ways. I started the process Saturday was a week ago and I did not stop passing clots until Thursday. I am so sorry for your loss.
  • Thank you so much.
