Help!!! Adjusting to new sibling

Hope you all don't mind me popping in here for some helpful tips! I have a 27 month old DS and an almost 2wk old DD, I knew the first few weeks would be a rough transition but never imagined it would be THIS bad! DS pretty much wants nothing to do with me and only wants "my daddy", he pretty much cries way more than the baby at this point and gets to the point of being in hysterics several times a day over things like taking off his socks...he becomes inconsolible. He's been fine at daycare, thank goodness, its just home time that;s a struggle. I'm dreading the weekend! He is also sleeping horribly, waking up a few times a night and then waking at 4am for the day. I had a c section, so i'm still unable to pick him up and I'm dealing with post partum blood pressure issues so physically this all really sucks.

I know I can't expect miracles and its just going to take time,  but any helpful tips that might help make this less nightmarish?

Re: Help!!! Adjusting to new sibling

  • I know you posted this a while ago. Has the situation gotten better? DS1 was like this the first few weeks, but I've made a huge effort to spend a small amount of one-on-one time with him every day and he's started coming around. I know it's hard with a newborn, but taking advantage of breastfeeding (we'll read books while DS2 eats) and naps seems to work best. Or I'll have DH hold DS2 so we can play together.
