Short girl problems

We are 34 weeks pregnant and are anxiously waiting for our little girl's arrival. I have lost weight through this whole pregnancy (i was fluffy to start) and the obvious concern is our baby girl's growth. So far all is good. So my question is, how are the shorties dealing with pregnancy? I feel like my appetite is super small because theres just no room in there. Anyone else feeling that way? I want to eat more but I get full so fast! Any ideas? I'm hypoglycemic so sugary high calorie options are out.

Re: Short girl problems

  • I'm 34 weeks and 5'2. Depending on where baby is chilling I am either a bottomless pit or I can eat like three bites of something before I'm full. I'm more annoyed with the fact that I've only grown outward for the past two/three months since LO ran out of torso. Hmm...the only thing I'm coming up with snack wise is nuts. They're realitively high calorie for a small serving size and are high in protein/fats.

    If your OB/midwife isn't worried, I wouldn't be!

  • Smaller meals but more meals. Spread them out. I am short 5'1 and I grow out front because there no room in my torso. This time baby has been hanging low so I don't have as many issues.
  • I'm 5' 3" and I have now 'gained' 5 lbs. I lost quite a bit during the first trimester. I was also a tad squishy before hand so my docs weren't concerned. I am almost 37 weeks and I am back to eating small meals (I was able to put some food down between 24 and 34 weeks) because baby girl is crowding my torso. I will feel like I am starving but then fill up pretty quick.

I also agree with the previous poster since your doc isn't comcerned, you shouldn't be! The baby will take what it needs!
  • I'm 5'3" and carrying all in front. It is tough.
Try to eat nutrient-dense foods (fruits, veggies, nuts, beans, lean meats) so that baby is getting plenty of vitamins and minerals from the small amount of food you are able to eat.
Try to munch on healthy foods throughout the day and make sure you're taking your prenatal.

  • I'm 5'2" and I can hardly eat anything. When my husband and I go out to dinner I take about 3/4th of my meal home and spread it out throughout the next day. I'm am doing ok with weight gain and the baby is a great size so I have never thought much about it. My "short girl problems" are that I can't climb up on the counter to get my blender and such anymore! I also feel so uncomfortable leaning and reaching on a footstool, esp being heavier than usual! My hubby works 12 hour days so I try to plan out what I need since we don't have the space to move everything down low.
  • I'm 5'2" and at 36 weeks I feel like I can put so much food away, and then instantly regret even trying. Between getting full so fast, the heartburn, and not being able to stomach anything healthy in the third trimester it's been rough. I feel like there's no room for food and baby. I've been trying to eat lighter, smaller, healthier meals but it's rough. I find if I just snack on healthier stuff like cheese, nuts, and granola bars, it's easier on my whole midsection, specially in the evenings.
  • I'm 5ft and I'm almost 36 weeks. I just eat small frequent snacks, about every hour or so. That's about all I can do.
  • I'm 5'1" and can feel baby's head hitting my cervix while his butt is pushing the right side of my ribcage out (or at least that's what it feels like, haha). I can only at a little at a time or my abdomen gets very uncomfortably tight, which means I'm always hungry, so I eat once every hour to hour and a half. I lost 30 pounds from weeks 6-17; I'm 35 now and have gained 25 back :(
  • I am 5'2" and 36 weeks. I agree with regretting it everytime i eat to much. And nothing ever sounds good. At 35 wks i had gained about 7lbs (also fluffy) and am now almost to 10. Her little butt is right in my ribcage and i am all out front. I also have a 15cm fibroid in there so things are pretty cramped.
  • I'm 5'1" and can feel baby's head hitting my cervix while his butt is pushing the right side of my ribcage out (or at least that's what it feels like, haha).

This is my short girl problem. So much pushing up everywhere when I sit, but can't stand long either... just feeling like a hot mess.

I can't even sit up straight for more than 5 seconds at a time without that side of my rib-cage tingling painfully then going numb. But I'm not supposed to stand or sit up straight for more than 10 minutes at a time, anyway (I'm on modified bed rest), so it's not *that* big of a deal for me.
  • 4'10 and 34 weeks...I find myself eating too much. I get worried I'm gaining too much weight but my midwife says I'm right in track. She even told me maybe gain a bit more! I guess just eat more frequently? Snacks, small meals, little treats, etc.
If anything, ask your ob for tips!
    Good luck!
  • 33 weeks and I'm 5'2. My daughter was 22 inches at birth and I honesty don't know how that was possible. This guy is head down low and has his feet way up in my ribs or folded down in front of his face because he has no where to put them.
Luckily this time I've barely gained. Last time I gained 75lbs and was so uncomfortable. It has t been as bad this time.
But small meals are the key for sure.
  • I'm 5'2, almost 33 weeks. Somehow I haven't run out of torso yet because he's still not growing outward much, which is bizarre. But I have no appetite at all. It used to be just lunchtime I couldn't eat much, then it became lunch and dinner, and now I'm losing breakfast, too. Just no desire to eat anything ever, and then my blood sugar drops and I have to scrounge up a snack. My primary snacks are Breakfast Essentials, protein bars, and ... well, sesame crackers and cheese whiz.

I wasted twelve bucks last week when a friend and I went to lunch at a buffet. If I had room in my stomach for more than a tiny bit of food it would have been worth it, but I barely ate a full plate of salad before I was full.
  • I'm Five two and  quite petite on average... If you have seen my bump pic for this week you know very well that I am now huge, Like webble wobble huge lol

I have officially ran out of torso so all she can do is Go outwards, I have absolutely No appetiate but am still forcing myself to snack and eat at least one full meal. (by snack I mean pretty much every hour)

That's the thing I hate about buffets. We have a love hate relationship. Like am I really going to eat $12 worth of food?

  • Im 4'8 and 34 weeks and at first i was eating sooo much. I gained about 20-25lbs. Last week i lost 5lbs and not as big of an appetite lately. More like my pre-pregnancy appetite. I try not to eat too much processed food. I snack on fruits or veggies. No soda, no caffeine. Im ALWAYS thirsty so water is a big part. I also do prenatal workout as much as i can ( not for weight loss just for health reasons) im all belly and a little bigger in my face and boobs. Ive always been very very thin

I certainly didn't. I mean, the salad I put together at the salad bar was pretty freaking awesome and I've been craving salad ever since... but that just means I pretty much paid $12 to get a salad craving. Cool.
  • Thanks ladies!!! I don't feel alone in this. I can totally relate to the butt in your ribs!!!! We had another growth ultra sound today and they have her in the 54th percentile and 5lb2oz. Slightly, just so slightly under average but healthy and active and everything else is spot on. Guess I'll stick to healthy snacks, pre natals, and small meals
  • I have two serious short girl problems going on now.

    1) The counter thing. I pulled a muscle a few weeks ago trying to jump up to sit on my kitchen counters. This is an important life skill for me - I NEED this back. Complete and total bullcrap. I can't use a sturdy chair either - with how our house is set up we don't have an indoor kitchen table currently for space reasons, we're looking for the perfect one for the tiny space we have, and our bar stools aren't stand on safe.

    2) Sinks. My bump pushes against them so that washing my hands/doing dishes hurts.

    Mmm... salad.....

  • Grrr...sinks.

I am still managing ...barely hop on my counter... However I have two other children so my three year old will run and get his stool for me to use if i yell out.

Sinks dont really hurt me but I always end up with a wet bump.

  • I'm 5'1 and this baby is all out front and low. I feel like she keeps trying to get out "Alien" style. I actually just got a support belt in so hopefully that will help with the pain I've been having to I can start doing things around the house again.
My biggest issue with food is that I love to eat but keep running out of room. I definitely still have an appetite, I just have eyes bigger than my stomach now.

Also sinks and top loading washing machines suck.
  • 5'2 and feeling the same! I try to eat higher calorie foods like avocado and peanut butter to make up for the lack of room my stomach has.

I've had a lot of trouble getting up from anywhere because baby is breech and shoved up under my ribs. The other thing is I've grown outwards so much that I barely have enough room to drive. Steering wheel almost grazes my belly and I can't push my seat back any more because then my feet won't reach.

My cooking spray, spices, salt and pepper are all above my oven. I feel like if I reach up to try to grab them my bump/t shirt will catch fire. It seriously scares me. It's not like I can stop drop and roll with this belly.
  • Oh goodness. Baby girl has been so active today. Being short, she is hitting everything! She is punching my bladder and cervix and kicking my ribs. Ow! The cervix hits do not feel good. I love the movement, it's so neat but dang, she could stop stretching for a little. My whole torso is getting it.
  • 5'4, and I never really considered myself short (although my 6'5 husband calls me 'shorty' :P ),but trying to pack the apartment with this huge bump is impossible!  I can't bend over and reach the bottom of most boxes, and if I put them on a table instead of the floor, they're too tall for me to reach into.  So I'm relegated to only packing non-breakable stuff, since I have to drop it into the box, LOL!  I also can't get things off of higher shelves in the kitchen.  I used to be able to get things if I got on my toes and stretched, but bump + counter means I can't get close enough for that to work!  And DH yells at me when I try to hop up and sit on the counter.  This kitchen wasn't built for short pregnant people!!!  I need a step-stool....
