Parenting after 35

Will I ever sleep again?

I am seriously running on fumes and I think I'm even short of those. This sweet boy of mine will NOT sleep!! In the last couple of days.. He just will not stay down. He falls asleep just fine but I put him down and 15 minutes later he's up crying. He only napped 20 minutes ALL day yesterday. He didn't go down.. Like really down for the night until 2:30am. And was up at 5:30. He's only slept 30 minutes so far today.

He's 4 mo. I'm wondering if this is just the wakeful period and I also think he might be teething. He's constantly chewing on his hands and he's a serious drool factory.

Ugh. I've been trying to exercise. Been walking 2 miles around the school track every day when I take my older kids to school. I did it today too. But I'm worthless when I get home. I have no energy!

Re: Will I ever sleep again?

  • We went through a period where my son would only sleep if held. It only lasted for a few weeks. My husband and I slept in shifts.

  • Hopefully it doesn't last long. I don't have relief. I'm not working. DH has to get up at 4 for work every day. I'm the only one dealing with kids at night stuff.

  • Quit walking and save your energy! And I'm sorry about your LO. Is he teething? Can you get at least a few hours of relief so you can get a bit of shut-eye?
  • I think he might be teething. I've been giving him organic teething tablets which seem to be helping. He also pooped yesterday and I think that helped. He slept from midnight to 5am this morning!! Yay!!! Hopefully he naps today.

I'm still walking. Just because most of the time it's the only fresh air I get all day. It gets us out of the house. Gives me some peace and quiet. Especially on days both kids are in school. But I have to do something. This baby weight is killing me. Me knees hurt and my back hurts.. I end up chained to the couch with him. It feels good to be active. Even tho I'm tired.

  • I still have those days with my toddler who still doesn't sleep through the night. We were on a good run shortly after her second birthday. I also work full time so I usually take a power nap when I get home and we go to bed really early. My husband is in the military so a majority of the time it's all me. We bed share so it's a lot easier if/when she wakes during the night.
Just remember baby sleep patterns change all the time during the first 18-24  months due to regressions, growth spurts, illness, teething, meeting milestones, etc. He may return to his previous sleep habits or develop new ones.
