Is anyone's little one experiencing this yet? I think my son is starting but I also just transitioned him from the pnp in our room to his crib in his own room. Usually he goes right down after his night time feedings but last night it took an hour before I could put him in his crib and he stayed asleep. I'm nervous what to expect over the next few weeks!
Re: Four month sleep regression
My kid has been waking up several times a night all of month three. He turned four months today, so I'm wondering if we can get any worse (HA! It can always. Get. Worse.), or maybe he started it early, or maybe he will skip it because he never progressed?
So sooo happy to answer my own question.
I've read that 4 months is when babies transition from baby-style sleep cycles to adult-style sleep cycles. So prior to that, they're in deeper sleep most of the time, but afterwards they start having similar REM cycles to us (like 2-3 hour cycles where they wake lightly after each one). Because they don't really get that a cycle has ended but it's still nighttime so they should put themselves back to sleep (like adults do), this causes them to think it's suddenly Party Time in the middle of the night. It can also make it difficult to do the "nurse to sleep and then transfer" routine, because it takes longer for them to enter the deep sleep portion of the cycle than it does when they're younger (so you might have to wait until they're out for 30+ minutes before doing this, or hope that putting them down awake but drowsy will lead to them going to sleep on their own).
I don't know how true this is...I think LO's cycles during the day are about 30-40 minutes (which is why her naps are so short), but she does sleep pretty hard at night. However, I have seen her recently (she's 15 weeks) waking several times at night and thrashing around before putting herself back to sleep (if she is actually hungry, she cries, if not, she just sucks her thumb). I am VERY SERIOUSLY hoping that she's just a heavy sleeper like DH is and that her nighttime sleep will continue to be this way, since I know she can and has put herself back to sleep in these waking situations before...but I'm sure this will come to get me eventually. I actually thought it started Monday night because she suddenly woke twice to eat MOTN and was still up early for the day (when she hasn't woken more than once MOTN in over a month, and typically sleeps in later when she does), but she was normal again last night...so I think I was just dealing with a combination of her cold and possibly a growth spurt.
I think there's also a lot of cognitive growth at this time...there's a long "leap" for those of you who use the Wonder Weeks thing. But I don't know exactly what they're learning during that leap.

I must have been thinking of pregnancy. Thanks so much, @klkonwi !!!
Wonder Weeks is what they call them.. Nobody warns you about them.. But they happen for the first couple years!!
The good news is that our babies are growing and developing new skills .. It just takes a few weeks to adjust
