Any hypothyroidism TTC's out there?

Hi all

My husband and I have been trying to conceive going on about 9 months now. We have had him checked out, no issues there. I have congenital hypothyroidism; I was born without a thyroid gland, except for a tiny little vestige of thyroid tissue, which barely puts out any hormones. As a result I take Synthroid (levothyroxine) every day, I have my hormone levels checked every month to make sure I'm on the the correct dosage. My GP told me it could be an issue when TTC, but didn't think we would have one since I have been in a good place as far as my meds go. No complications that we know of from the lack of thyroid other than the fact that I am slightly overweight (I eat well, work out 4-5 times per week). I just wanted to know from those of you who may have this condition, or even just a form of hypothyroidism, if you had trouble TTC, what you tried that worked for you, what changes your doctor recommended. We have an appointment with our GP in a week or so to do some fertility tests for myself since DH is in the clear. Any advice or experiences you'd like to share would be welcome. And before anyone asks, yes I have been monitoring my cycles like clockwork, I use ovulation tests, basal temp monitoring, CM monitoring etc, and I have read Taking Charge of Your Fertility

I have hypothyroidism, and I was absolutely convinced that was the reason I wasn't getting pregnant. I know the normal range is under 4, but I heard from a friend who went through this process and people online that REs will recommend between 1 and 2.5 if you are trying to get pregnant. I knew from my last testing before we even tried to get pregnant that mine was close to 3.5, so I thought that was my answer. My RE increased my dosage on my first visit, but it's been about 5 or 6 months and still nothing. I have read in a book there could be immunological issues if your hypothyroidism is caused by an autoimmune disorder (Hashimotos). Since yours is congenital, I don't believe that would be an issue but I'm not a doctor so I can't tell you that for sure.

My RE told me they are more aggressive with TSH levels than general practitioners and most ordinary endocrinologists. He also did tell me, however, that he didn't think my level (at that time was just over 4) was keeping me from getting pregnant. I'm glad you are getting your bloodwork done, and I hope you get your baby soon! I don't wish this infertility nonsense on my worst enemy!

I haven't officially been diagnosed with hypothyroidism but ever since I started seeing my RE she prescribed syntroid because my tsh levels were not at the level they like them to be when TTC. My doses have gone up since then and now I'm taking 75 mg a day. I just finished an unsuccessful cycle where I thought I did everything right with femara, bravelle shots, and the hcg trigger shot then used TI to TTC. Next we test my DH's sperm and I'm doing a pre coitial test (suggested by @riveridgional) to check to see if that's an issue. I wish I could help you more but so far I haven't had any success with any of the treatments we have tried.
