BC...

I talked to my OB about Mirena. I am curious if any of you have tried it yet or in the past, did you bleed when you got it? How long did that last? I'm BF currently and have had no signs of my period returning, but I don't really want it to come back by getting Mirena so soon. LO is 9 weeks on Wednesday. Thank you!

Re: BC...

  • I had it for 8 months and bled the entire time. Maybe had 1-2 days that I didn't. It started from an hour after placement, and stopped the day before I got it removed 8 months later.
I also had non stop yeast infections and constant itching (a side effect of mirena listed on the packaging). Also made me on edge all the time, when I'm normally laid back.
It also gave me cervical cancer, in record time. I had a normal pap, prior to baby, got mirena, got it removed, had my annual, had to go back for a colposcopy and biopsy, precancerous. I had a LEEP a week after that result was given to me. Pathology from the surgery showed it turned to cancer in a weeks time.

Do not get that devilish device!!! Get an implant in your arm but please don't put anything into your cervix! Granted, my case isn't going to be exactly what happens to you, but.. It could. And I warn everyone of it.

  • Well I didn't have mirena but I had Paragard that is hormone free. I don't do well on any hormone birth control so it was my only option. I absolutely loved it until it came out. It did start to come out after 14 months but it looks like it was more the issue with the NP who put it in and the complication I had from my emergency delivery with DS (surgically cut cervix). Now even with that I'm getting it put in again (by my OB and no cervical damage because I had a RCS). Since it doesn't have any hormones, it doesn't effect your cycle in any way. Also, when it comes out, you can get pregnant immediately. I have two other friends who have it and all have had great experiences.
  • I just got the mirena about a month ago, so far have just had my normal period and no side effects (cramping, spotting, or otherwise)

  • I had one for about 2 1/2 years before getting pregnant with our first LO. Getting it put in hurt intensely for about 15 seconds (if you had a membrane sweep or your OB broke your water, it was 15 second of that) then I just cramped for the rest of the day, but I was able to drive myself home from the OB with some Advil. I didn't really get a period with it, maybe a few days of spotting every few months. I also had no problem getting pregnant once it was out (4th cycle of trying to conceive).

  • I had it for almost 9 months. Randomly bled off and on the entire time, more on than off. Constant abdominal discomfort and cramping. Hubby could feel it poking him when we had sex. Overall, I hated it and had it taken out.
