Early Spotting

Hi everyone,
I'm very worried, I started spotting this morning. I'm 4 weeks 6 days. I started testing positive on all types of at home tests 5 days before missed date. The spotting started this morning very light. It stopped all day and now at 5pm I'm spotting again. I called the doctor this morning and had blood work done, I have to go back Wednesday to have more done to see if my hormone levels have doubled. I'm 30 and this is my second child. My son is 3yr. I never had spotting with him. Has anyone had this happen and everything be ok? I'm really concerned

Re: Early Spotting

  • There are a lot of reasons for spotting, I know it's scary and hard not to worry.
I did have spotting with my first pregnancy and everything was fine.
I also did have spotting that resulted in a loss.

It's really hard and I'm sorry you're dealing with it and don't have answers right now.

  • Same exact thing is going on with me.  I had my second level drawn today, but they told me my first level was good (still within range for where I am).  It is very normal, so try not to stress.  You'll have your answer soon  Good luck

  • With my first pregnancy I had spotting for a few weeks and it was nothing. I had betas done & all that and they said everything was fine. In fact, they told me there was no reason to call unless I was soaking through a pad. It was really hard to find peace of mind in that situation, but just know our cervix is changing so much that sometimes it just happens. Fingers crossed!!!
  • I haven't spotted, but I know it is normal!  Sending prayers!

  • With my first I spotted some at 5 or 6 weeks. The doc had me come in and they were able to see the little blinking heartbeat. All was well. Sometimes spotting is ok.

  • I had spotting at a little over 6 weeks. They found a heartbeat and did a scan and the baby looked perfect. All was good and DS is now 19 months.

  • I also had spotting around 6 weeks with DD, and she is a happy healthy almost 2 year old now. Sending t&p.
  • Thank you, I ran 5 miles yesterday and I'm blaming myself right now... I always work out like this and I did throughout my first pregnancy so I thought I'd be fine. Now I'm wondering. I'm worried sick, I'm praying the baby will be ok. Thanks for your sharing, positive stories are comforting
  • I had spotting in my second pregnancy on and off during the whole thing. It was really scary but everything was perfect. I noticed it more when I tried to do too much. Try to stay calm!

  • I had spotting around 6 weeks and again around 8 weeks. All is good and per the dr., totally normal and probably implantation and stretching.
  • I had spotting my first pregnancy for weeks. We found out that it was because my placenta was partially covering my cervix and was very common. I was still petrified whenever I wiped or saw it. My OB was great and whenever I got really nervous about it they would let me come in for a scan or to hear the heartbeat. I found that resting made it lighter. Now he's a very healthy and VERY active 18 month old. As hard as it is, try and rest and keep your Dr updated if there are any changes!
  • I had spotting around 6 weeks with my first pregnancy. I went to my doctor and she gave me some great advice which I'm still telling myself everyday with this pregnancy: it's very unlikely that you can do anything to cause a miscarriage and if a miscarriage is happening at this stage you can't do anything to prevent it. She said most early miscarriages happen because the embryo is not viable and would not survive. It was actually really comforting for me to hear this because I realized that it was going to happen the way it needed to and I couldn't control it either way. The spotting stopped after about two days and I had a healthy pregnancy.

With this one I had some bright pink spotting about four days before my period was due. My friend who is a nurse thinks it was implantation bleeding. I was all set to gear up for trying again next cycle, but was pleasantly surprised when the spotting stopped completely and then three days later the test came back positive.
  • I started spotting last night at 5 weeks 2 days with a lot of back pain. My OB told me it's very very normal, to take tylenol, and that she will do a scan when I go on Monday for my 6 week visit. I'm relatively calm since I spotted with my last like I said. Hang in there mama!

Oh, please try not to blame yourself. I know it's so, so hard - but there's nothing you can do, or not do to prevent anything at this stage.
You are being healthy and staying active! That's not a bad thing.

My fingers are crossed for you and I'm sending positive thoughts.
    Be kind to yourself.

  • Hi mommas,

I had heavier bleeding today. The doc said my first blood test came back at only 41. She didn't sound hopefully since I was bleeding more today. She mentioned a chemical pregnancy. I couldn't wait until Thursday so I took the same test I did 5 days before missed. This same test came back positive multiple times for me last week. Now I'm negative
  • I'm very sorry @XoXomomma - please talk to your doctor to confirm anything though. Please know that your run in no way, shape or form did anything to impact your baby. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
  • I'm so sorry @XoXomomma.  You're in my thoughts.

  • @XoXomomma I am so sorry. I am actually going through a similar situation right now. I had brown spotting Sunday and Monday. Last night it turned red. This morning it was red and heavier, but no cramps. I just went in for a blood test this morning and I go back Friday to test again. I am 4w5d today. I feel like POAS right now but I will wait until the morning. My DH is trying to stay positive but I feel like I already know. I don't feel pregnant at all.
I am so sorry and I will keep you in my thoughts.
  • So sorry for this sad news. :(

  • The doctor called today in regards to my second blood test. My level dropped in 1/2 rather than doubling. But she said with it being so early and my initial hormone level being so low it was likely that the sperm was waiting to meeting the egg but they never actually met. When it's there your hormone levels rise to prepare for pregnancy. But the rate mine decreased she said they most likely didn't meet and there wasn't a heart beat ever. As sad as that may sound it made me feel better that it wasn't actually created. Sry if that's tmi, just thought I'd share bc I'm feeling a little better with this news
