Surprisingly I did learn today that since this blood test can be done at 10 weeks and analyzes fetal DNA, you get to learn the sex if you choose at that time. So if you're super impatient, that's a bonus!
I had it with my daughter. I will have it this time as well since I'm "high risk" aka old.

Materniti21 is another blood test to detect risk of Down's syndrome. There's a lot of debate about it but some physicians do stand by it. It's all about doctors preference.
I'm having this done because I have a history of congenital heart defects in my family. I'm only 25 and this is my first pregnancy. My younger sister has digeorge syndrome and that is one of the things the test screens for. Curious if insurance will cover this test? Do any of you know? If not- how much is the test on average?
@Alparsons Your insurance might cover it because of your history. You'll likely have to get a letter of medical necessity from your doctor. Without insurance the test will run you about $700, if I remember correctly.
The test I'm getting, the Verifi test, has an out of pocket maximum, meaning the most they will charge you is $99 regardless of whether insurance pays for it. I would call around and check prices.

This is how mine is too.
You need to call your insurance company and get information from them. They'll be much more helpful than we will be because we don't know your specific coverage.
I'm not going to bother; we did IVF/PGS and it's significantly more accurate. If I hadn't done PGS, I'd do the test, though, for sure. We'll be doing the NT scan anyway, since there're non-genetic neural tube defects it can check.

I did the Panorama test with DD. It's the same thing, different brand. I paid the $99 out of pocket max pp mentioned.
As pp said, there's an added bonus of finding out the sex in addition to all of the other results. I loved knowing at 10 weeks last time that it was going to be a girl. I'm over 35, so the test is recommended, but I'd do it either way.
I had this test done in 2013 when I was pregnant with my son. I was 39 and delivered at 40 so my ob recommended it and insurance paid for it. Basically I had to have a meeting with a genetic counselor for about 20-30 minutes and we went over mine and my husband's family medical history, backgrounds, etc. She explained the test to me in detail as well as how they come up with the statistical data that they do. Then I had the blood test. The genetic counselor, not my ob, called me with the results and explained their significance in relationship to any testing I had had up until then.
The results were then sent to my doctor.
I didn't find out the sex of the baby through this test as that was the furthest thing from my mind at the time. I was simply trying to process and write down all the information I was given.
All in all it was a very positive and very informative experience and I'm happy I was able to have the test done.
I'm 42 with my second child and will definitely be doing the test again.
I am 34/will turn 35 during my pregnancy and I am going to ask for it. Knowing that it will provide the sex of the baby, I will remember to ask for that information too.

Does anyone know or have experience where you requested this test but your doctor wouldn't administer, or they don't offer it? I understand that insurance is one thing, but I'm wondering about the actual provider.

It's a cell free fetal dna test. There are different brand names. Your doctor should offer one of them or be able to refer you to a specialist that does.
Spoke with my doctor yesterday. She said that because of my family history our insurance will cover the cost of the test and will probably want to do a more specialized exam later on in the pregnancy to check the heart more closely to make sure everything is alright. @benicode My doctor said that if she didn't think it was necessary for me to have the test done, she wouldn't "approve" it or recommend it because it would cost about $2000 without insurance! I think that if they don't offer it, they would be able to recommend a place that does.
