What defines preemie? How early? Sick?

It's stands for premature so I would think technically any baby less than 37 weeks as that I have been told is considered full term. However I feel like most refer to 34 weeks and under as preemie.

There are different classifications of premies I forget all of them, but my little guy born at 34 weeks was considered late term premature.

Mine was born at 33 weeks and is considered a premie. It doesn't have anything to do with whether or not a baby is born healthy.

Full term was changed months ago to 39 weeks. So I assume that would redefine the term preemie or add a new category? Late term preemie I've seen lately.

This one was healthy & 36 week.

Previously had a 30 weeker that was sick.

Sorry that this is a bit late but hopefully it helps. Regardless of how sick, what kind or how much support the baby needs, premature birth is defined as a birth Tha takes place before the sat of the 37th week of pregnancy. There are different categories of preemie and all are based on gestational age. The article I linked to from the Mayo Clinic goes into detail on these subcategories. I hope this was helpful.
