In between diaper sizes.

My almost 6 week old seems to be in between diaper sizes. We use pampers swaddlers in newborn. He is 10 lbs roughly. The past couple of days now he is having more leaks(both urine and stool) out the sides of the legs. (Yesterday it was everytime he had a BM which made for lots of cleanup and laundry.) I tried putting the size 1 on him but they are WAY too loose around the legs and goes way up over his belly button. I had some huggies and luvs and tried those too. Has anyone else dealt with this diaper issue before?

We switched our baby out of newborn to size 1 when he was about 11 lbs. They were a little big but we haven't had any issues with leaks and just make sure they're really tight. (We're using Pampers Swaddlers too.) If you want to stick with Newborn for a little longer, make sure the little ruffles around the legs are on the outside and not tucked in. That should help them from leaking.

Fold down the top! It makes it tighter!

I read that diapers are supposed to go high up the back and just cover the belly button. That's why they recommend folding the top of the diaper down until the cord falls off.

We fold the top down on size ones. It seems to work fine for us. She is roughly 8 lbs

That's how I know when to move up a size in diapers.  If they start leaking, they are too small.  You can just fold down the top like others have said. :-)
