Precipitous labor....anyone else out there?

So this is baby #2, and número uno arrived 2 hours and 29 minutes after my water broke and the first contraction. Anyone else have precipitous labor with a previous pregnancy? Not gonna Lie, I'm a bit nervous about thing 2's arrival.

  • I did. I was induced with my last one because I was leaking some sort of fluid and had him in 3 hours from 0cm They pretty much said if I ever get pregnant again and my water breaks to hope I'm close to a hospital which makes me super nervous!

  • After they broke my water with baby #2, I went from 4 to 10 cm in 11 minutes. The doctor barely made it into the room before she was born. We decided that I will deliver at the local hospital this time just to make sure I don't give birth on the side of the road!
  • Mine was....I think. I arrived at the hospital at 7-8cm at 9pm. I didn't even think I was in labor. I told my midwife that they could just send me back home because I wasn't in pain. She checked me, and was like, "Nope! You're having a baby....and soon!" They broke my water around 9:30pm (it hurt like hell then!), and I was pushing by 11:30pm. I had her at 11:56pm. It seemed super fast after they broke my water. I was also told the same thing about if I have another one they hope my water doesn't break till I get to the hospital. We'll see I guess!

  • My water broke at 4:15am and DD arrived (via c-section due to her being breech) at 6:25am. I had back labor once I got to the hospital. My OB said it's possible for me to try a vaginal birth this go round so this may be a much different experience.

Unicornuate Uterus (yes I menstruate glitter)
    Several MCs
DD born 2013 (our miracle "you can't have babies" baby!)

  • My first had no early signs of labor. I woke up at 1:55 a.m. When my water broke and contractions started at 2 minutes long and 6 minutes apart. Baby was in my arms at 4:24. I'm now famous for telling my sister, "I lied, I want the epidural" when she got there to drive me to the hospital. I thought it was going to be 10-12 hours of that kind of intense pain and contractions. Thank god it was a fast labor after all.

I am expecting number two and have a huge amount of anxiety about this as well. I arrived at the birth center only 1cm dilated and within 30 minutes I transitioned, pushed twice and had had my son.  People say how lucky I am to have had such a fast labor but the truth is it was scary and pretty traumatic.  I'm concerned that my anxiety is going to make for a difficult labor this time around.  I would love to know who else has been through this and if they have any tips for labor number 2.

Wow, old thread! But I'm overdue and bored so I'll bite. :) First, are you due this month? Either way you should really find time to discuss this with your care provider as they will possibility adjust their instructions for when to call/go to hospital. Tips--remember that every labor is different! In general STM+ push for less time but don't necessarily progress through labor faster/slower/etc. Having some anxiety is normal, but if you're really struggling, looking into a doula might be helpful as well. Good luck!
