What is normal weight gain?

My baby was born August 4th at 9.14 22 inched long. Now 8 weeks later she is 15 pounds. She is a breast fed baby.
I know she will be a big girl I am 6 foot and her dad is 6'4.
Is she gaining weight to fast? I tell people how big she is and they are amazed.
She is almost out of 3 month clothes and her size one diapers are a bit tight. They leave marks where the diaper was.

Re: What is normal weight gain?

  • She may not continue to gain weight that fast. My DS was 8.5lb at 4wks then was 13lb at 8wks. He was wearing some 12 month clothes at 4-5 months but was still wearing them at 15 months. He was EBF.

  • Sounds a lot like my baby. My husband and I are both over 6 foot. She was 8.6 21 inches at birth, she's now 8 weeks old 13.11 lbs and 24 inches. Doctor said she's doing great.
  • I also have a fast growing baby, he was born 6lbs 12oz 19in and now he's already up to 13 or so lbs and 23in. He's also a BF baby, just really hungry all the time. I pump so I know he's getting enough to eat. But he's also in size 2 diapers and if your LO is already 15lbs I would def try out the next size up
  • They are loose around her waist it's gust her legs that get lines in them. What do I do with all my size 1 diapers. Can I take them to stores and just exchange them for a size up

Yes. Walmart and target will take any diapers back and you can exchange them. We had to move our baby up to size 2 and exchanged them at target.
  • Awsome. I felt bad by having her wear newborn when she really didn't fit into them. I had maybe 2 packages. I didn't want them to not be used. But I have way to many 1 sizes to do that with. So I will deffently be taking them back. Thankyou
  • My LO is mostly BF, maybe 2-4 ounces of formula a day since I cannot keep up with the little piggy! He had a slow start to gain at the beginning, but has been consistently putting on 1.75-2 ounces a day for his last few weight checks and is now over 12 lbs (8 at birth). He's also put on 3.5 inches since birth and is getting out of 3 month stuff by length (footed pjs in particular). My H is 6'6" so I'm not totally surprised. The pedi has just said he's growing fast and she will not be concerned so long as he generally stays on his growth curve. I'm looking at our size ones pinching his leg chub and starting to think it's time to size up, plus we've had blow outs lately!

A trick I had with my first child was to tape the diaper receipts to the unopened boxes so that I could return them for a bigger size with no hassle if I needed. That way I can stock up during a sale and not worry about wasting money if he sizes up before we use them up.
