Baby Names

mixing new and old, what sounds best?

So we are not yet trying to conceive but we had our daughters name picked out a year before we even started TTC and I honestly think that being sure of her name helped us connect to her so much more during the pregnancy.... we are thinking about trying to conceive again so its name time!

Our belief is to give a child their own unique first name that no-one in the family has had before but the middle name will be given in honor of another family member... for example, my daughters name was Accalia Suzanne. My MIL's first name is Suzanne..... My husband is a JR. and he hates it, he does not want to give a child his or his fathers name at all....

So a girl would have my grandmother and mother's names. We are thinking Alessa Kaye Virginia F. I'm pretty stuck with Alessa, it just feels right, but I'm open to other suggestions that would go with Virginia, Kaye or Sandra.

as for a boy... We are torn between a few first names, they are Auden, Dagan, and Greyer.  The middle names would  be my dad or grandfathers names which are Thomas, Dale, Roger, Charles, or Leroy.... preferably using two of those for middle names. (I know that's a lot of names but there was my dad as well his biological and adoptive fathers to consider)

Please be honest! I want opinions on all the names - I'm just so overwhelmed with options. Middle names are rarely used so I'm not really concerned with whether people think its a "cool" or "with the times" name. It's a family thing. But I would greatly appreciate some feedback on what truly sounds good together! Thanks in advance guys!

Re: mixing new and old, what sounds best?

  • Sorry, but all the names are trend city for me. Two middle names is also NMS. I like most of your choices for mn for your boy, but otherwise, I would rethink those fns.

  • I originally didn't like two middle names either but I have so many medical issues that we are concerned we may not be able to have one child, let alone any other pregnancies to follow it. So I want to use two middle names just in case I don't get the opportunity to use them for other children... it's kind of an "all or nothing" situation...but I do appreciate your response! Thank you!

  • I understand your reasoning for wanting two middle names, so I won't comment on that.

As for the first names, they are not my style at all. Your girl name seems ok, like a more unique version of Alyssa but still sounds nice and like a real name (just googled and it is a nickname for Alessandra?). But the boy names all get a "no" vote from me.

  • Is Auden for the poet? That's kind of cool, if so.
Dagan is confusing. I've never heard of it and don't know how to pronounce it. Greyer is like the trendy name Grey, but worser.
  • I like Alessa Kaye. I also like Alessandra. I really really don't like any of your boy first names. Of the middle names, my favorites are Charles and Thomas.
  • Alessa is NMS, but not bad. The boys names make me shake my head. You have nice middle name options, why not use one of those for the first name? I appreciate the fact that you're all for individuality and want to give your child their own first name, but there are a lot better ones out there, tbh.
  • Is Alessa pronounced (uh-less-uh) or (Uh-lisa) ?

    I like Alessa Kaye

Alessa reminds me of the birth control pill, Alesse. Or else it looks like you misspelled Alyssa. Not a fan.

    Virginia Kaye would work.

ETA: I don't like any of the boys names. Especially greyer... Like, more grey? Nope.

I was pronouncing Greyer like Breyer's ice cream..."Gry-er". Either way it is not good...
  • Ok we have talked and Greyer is out... Dagan seems to be causing some confusion in pronunciation... I guess the best way to explain it is Day-gun.... Auden did come from the poet. My husband is a literature guy and honestly he walked into our Study and saw it on a book on the shelf. I didn't hate it so it became an option. Alessa would be pronounced uh-less-uh... I had not even thought about Alessandra but I love it!!! It mixes Alessa and my grandmother's first name Sandra!!!! How bad is Alessandra Kaye Virginia Fetz?
  • Thumbs up to Alessandra Kaye Virginia!

  • Definitely yes to Alessandra.

  • I love Virginia. My grandmother's name was Virginia, and it's a contender for our next daughter. The boy names are NMS, but I like Thomas and Charles for a mn.
  • Alessandra it is! Thanks guys!

  • I love Alessandra!! Great choice :)
