I still EP, and I always pump 6 times a day,
    sometimes 7.

Today, I was busy and the opportunity to pump was weird, so I only pumped 5 times. My yield was the highest it's been in a week (only by an ounce or two, but still).

I may have to continue to test this! Dropping another daytime pump would be so nice.

This worked for me too... I'm 4.5 months PP and pump four times a day, maybe 5 if I can squeeze it in. I'm producing about 35oz per day, which is a few more oz than I got with more pumps. I don't pump in the MOTN, so my morning pump has been about 13-15oz. I used to wake up in pain, but I think my body is getting used to it and I don't feel quite as engorged anymore.

Try dropping for a day or two to see. If it doesn't work, you can always go back and add a power pump or something to get back on track. :)

  • @henrytviii that's terrible. I am so sorry that you had to go through that. People suck.

Anyone else's LO on Omeprazole (Prilosec)? We just moved to that from Zantac because LOs eating had plateaued and doc thinks she's regulating her intake too much cuz of her reflux. Within a day of the new meds she's is eating more and spitting up less! I only wish it wasn't $45 a month (Zantac was $5!)

We're on it. It has been much more effective than Zantac and we haven't had any side effects. I was surprised how expensive the generic is, too. It took about 5 days for it to build up but then we saw great results.

I hoping to start to get her off of it at 6 mo when we start solids. I'm worried LO has my GI issues, which includes low stomach acid. Low stomach acid presents in the same way as high, but you risk poor nutrient absorption with an antacid. But that's for me, and I would be concerned with any antacid, not just prilosec.
  • So my lo will eat for 5/6 minutes on one side and then get so fidgety. I'll burp her and try again but still fidgety, so I'll put her on the other side and she'll eat for another 5/6 minutes before getting fidgety. She used to eat for 20 minutes. Idk why she's doing this
  • @caitlincunn mine started that around 15-16 weeks. So frustrating. She cries when I take her off but she's flailing about and acting crazy.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • Those wanting to drop a pump & are getting more. I did that at work & got more for about a week, & now I'm back to getting less! Just a heads up.

Also, @caitlincunn & @dancegurl1118 my LO is doing this too!!! It's so frustrating. I try to stay calm and sometimes stand by the oven fan if she's especially fussy/wiggly.
  • I've heard that about the pumping too. I guess sometimes it can take a month for a change to show up in your supply. I'm super jealous about how much you are all getting from so few pumps though! Rock on
  • At all the moms with older kids...once they start solids at 6 months, how much are they getting a bottle/nursing? Part of me wants to go to formula, but if it's not as often, then maybe I'll change my mind. I plan on talking to our pedi about it on the 15th.
  • I'm pumping every 2 hours at work and I feel like my supply has tanked. I've only been back a week so I think stress and being away from LO has to do with it. I can barely keep up with how much LO eats! I had to dip into my freezer stash already which I sidnt think I would have to do so soon.

Has anyone tried Honest company's laction plus? I just got it today and I'm hoping it helps!
  • Also @henrytviii I am so mad for you!! Honestly that has been one of my biggest fears. I haven't been super vocal about my pumping at work so I'm always worried someone is going to hear it and think something weird is going on. I pump in the bathroom as of right now because we lost the key to the room I'm supposed to pump in (locksmith is coming Monday). If security gaurds came I would be mortified!!

I think it really depends on the kid. I did BLW and it took about 2 months before I saw a drop in nursing. But he still nursed a lot through 11 months. I am going to try to stick it out until we start solids and hope that I need to nurse and pump a lot less. If not I'll start supplementing as needed. This kid is 19.75 lbs, I fear there is no way a few veggies are going satisfy him!

In other news, LO will only take a bottle from me... Why am I so unlucky with this whole feeding thing????

Edit to say it doesn't matter if I'm in the house or not. It used to just be that I'd have to be home but now he refuses from dad even if I'm there. Dad hands him over to me (while pumping) and he sucks it down. Apparently he has nowade this part of nursing in his head

I'm sure it varies, but with DS, he was eating 1/3 less to 1/2 less pretty quickly. I was able to keep pumping at the same rate starting at 6 mo and quit altogether at 9 mo but had enough BM to get him to 1 year with no formula or cow's milk. DS never ate baby food, always our food. It took a few weeks to really see a drop in BM demand. We introduced new foods pretty slowly.
  • @Sammy K and @henryviii thanks! I guess I'm just going to play it by ear & see how it goes.
  • @henryviii I'm also so mad for you. Luckily my pumping situation at work is great because I have my own office but I'm terrified to start traveling for work because of this. Luckily that won't start until after jan 1 but im dreading it already and I really would like to breast feed for a year
  • @amccoy129 With ds, his intake didn't change when he started solids. He was drinking 4 ounces of breastmilk previously, and still drank 4 ounces even with the solids. He would just go longer in between feedings. We would give him 1 jar of baby food, then his bottle. If he still acted hungry afterwards, he got another jar of food. It was about 7.5 months or so when he started taking in 2 jars a time. Then at 9 months we switched to normal food. He still drank 4 ounces of breastmilk, and ate food too.

Yeah I assumed intake probably wouldn't change, but I was curious if they ate less often. I guess I'll just have to see what my little guy wants to do.

Yeah, ds went from eating every 2-3 hours to every 4 or so. Sometimes he would go longer, but I tried to keep him to 4-4.5.

  • Her cold is making BF even more of a struggle. Poor girl.

  • Kellymom saying that allergy meds don't decrease supply is a lie. Left boob basically died after taking Claritin for 3 days. Now 2 days after stopping the Claritin (and using SO MUCH Kleenex!) left boob is trying to make a comeback. Its still super low, and it always was the less producing side, but there is just a bit more today than Saturday. Just a bit. I've got some supplements arriving tomorrow to try, also. At least right boob is still hanging in there

  • @mellymar I take my Zyrtec every other or every 3 days because of this. So obnoxious.

  • @rrcameron21 I use honest lactation plus and it's amazing :) it will help your supply.
  • @rrcameron21 @klkonwi is there a reason for you to take the laxtation supplement?? Besides the obvious.. I don't think you guys were having problems? My lo will eat for 5 mins and then won't stay latched unless I switch her to the other side where she will eat for 5 mins. Idk if the flow is not fast enough for her or what but it's driving me crazy. Before she would eat fine for 20ish minutes and I would switch her over to the other side around 15 minutes. She has enough wet diapers, haven't counted but seems to be normal so idk if I should just keep doing the switching sides after 5 mins or if it's my supply. I EBF, have pumped randomly for the freezer but she won't take a bottle .
  • @rrcameron21 where do you get it & aren't you pumping at work?
I've had less supply bc my schedule is off. She eats at 6am, & then I pump at work around 11 & 2 then start feeding her again around 430.
What about when you're home feeding LO is there an over supply?

Sorry so many questions. I've had to send some formula bottles to daycare & her teacher informed me today I needed to send 5oz instead of 4oz now, but just in formula. BFing bottles she acts full at 4oz. Weird.
  • @mellymar I had to stop taking the mini pill when i suspected my supply was sure reading. I called the pharmacy and was told medication such as the mini pill or decongestions can decrease milk supply, and was told to use them with caution. Since quitting we're back in track. I hope your supply increases again soon. I noticed when I'm not stressed, well rested and have been eating oat meal my supply is best.
  • @MurLindzz oatmeal. Yeah. Need more oatmeal. I like oatmeal, just need the time to cook it, I guess. Hopefully LO will start to nap longer again the mid morning and I can use that time to make some. Good call. I had forgotten.

  • ^^^ I haven't really been feeling cooked oatmeal much. I've been soaking the old fashioned oatmeal in cold milk for a few minutes to soften it and mixing in multi grain Cheerios. The Cheerios give it a little sweetness and its been my go to breakfast for awhile. I really do think the oatmeal helps with my supply.
  • ^^^ oatmeal totally helps my supply. I get engorged the day after eating them. I also like the overnight oats like pp described. I soak them in milk, cinnamon, peanut butter, sometimes brown sugar or honey overnight and then eat them cold in the morning. Yum.

Holy crap! :-O I'll have to try this! Can you share a sample recipe? (However much milk to oats ratio, peanut butter, etc? And I'm assuming it just sits in the fridge overnight?)

  • @cait7425 @423ang these sound DELISH. I must have missed the previous post someone referred to, because this blows my mind. I'm gonna try one.

  • @caitlincunn My sis is a nanny and has sworn they have helped many of her mothers/clients with supply. I've never had a problem with supply per say but I forgot to take the supplement one weekend and noticed a dip. Totally could have been a coincidence though! But why chance it.
  • @klkonwi thanks, I think it might have to do with her stuffy nose and my cold. She eats normal before bed so I'll see if she keeps it up.
