On Friday I ran into someone I work with at my OBs office building. It is a large medical building with all types of Dr offices (she wasn't at my OB). We were on the elevator and she said with a bit of attitude, "I thought you were on bedrest and that's why you have already been on maternity leave?"
Did she think I was literally staying in my bed until D day? I just looked at her and finally after a minute of awkwardness I said, "My reward for good behavior is a weekly trip to my OB. It's so much better than work. I get painful shots and cervical checks. It's almost as awesome as Disney World!"
Thank goodness the elevator doors opened at that time and I was able to waddle on out and down the hall away from her ignorance!

This is hilarious! I'm glad you were able to come up with that response quickly!
  • Loading the player...
  • I was walking into Walmart and a large man walking out pointed at my belly, laughed and yelled "We're really cooking along now!"

    Huh?
  • I get this all the time. I tell them I excited to get her out.
  • Waddling my 37 wks self into work 5 days a week (working until I pop) and hearing, "You're still pregnant???" Nah, guys, I thought I'd go all 'sneaky-ninja' on y'all and have him in secret so I could come back to work as soon as possible because everyone knows how much I just looooooove this place.

I get the same thing every day, and when someone comments on me working until I give birth it's always something along the lines of "Don't have the baby here, I'm not going to deliver it!"

    First Time Mommy!

    Due Date: Oct 11th 2015

  • I was walking into Walmart and a large man walking out pointed at my belly, laughed and yelled "We're really cooking along now!" Huh?
Walmart for me too! A teenage girl came around the corner and apparently my bump scared her. She screamed, "Woaw!!!" and pointed at my belly. I was too startled to say anything, but my husband thought it was hilarious.
  • I was in target this summer picking up a swimsuit and two young teenage girls accidentally walked into the maternity section while shopping for bathing suits. When they realized where they were the one girl said "ew, pregnant women shouldn't wear bathing suits!" Her friend looked a little embarrassed since I was clearly shopping for one...I just had to laugh though.
  • A homeless guy mouthed "boy or girl" to me at a stoplight and when I answered he gave me a thumbs up, haha.

At party city the cashier asked me if I'm dilating yet.... kinda personal, right?

A friend asked if I had stuck my fingers up my vagina to see if I could feel the baby's head.....
  • Oh and my husband and I went swimming in a natural spring (cold water spring) a few months ago and overheard an older couple say, "She's gonna freeze that baby!" In a super judgy, not funny way. Hahaha
  • Walking by two teenagers girl I overheard one of them said said she looks so FAT . I understand they are teenagers they don't know anything yet but still I take this personally and getting very emotional . I am not huge but my belly really sticking out . 37 weeks tomorrow.
  • Hubby and I like to play poker at the casino, and when you sit at the tables people can be really friendly.
I had one lady ask me to rub my belly..."for luck."

Then when one of the guys got up to leave he wished us luck and said "I hope you have a child!"

...um? Yeah, that's sort of the plan? Lol as opposed to what, a chicken?
  • I was in a store and this little girl just stood there staring at my belly. Her dad kept trying to get her to move along but she was just frozen to the spot in a trance staring at my belly. It was actually kind of cute, haha.
  • I took my 11 year old to order new glasses and the lady that was helping is kept suggesting that we just wait and come back and order after I had the baby. I laughed it off thinking she was just trying to be funny but then I sneezed and she freaked out. She was like "Oh my don't have that baby here."
Last I knew babies aren't born through the nose!

Random man at Starbucks looked at my 38wk bump, grabbed his coffee, and said "whelp, looks like it's about time to make like a fetus and HEAD out!" WTF omg lol

LOL Sorry, but I really laughed at this.
  • Two of them:

My mom keeps reminding me that she and my dad have this week (12-16) off work. "Just letting you know!" Okay, not due til Oct 19, but I'll let him know! Believe me, I'm on your team - I'd love him here earlier too!

Also, my son's swim instructor "What are you going to do with him when the baby comes?" Had no clue what she was asking, so I jokingly replied "Oh, I guess we'll keep him!" And then she asked again. In the same way. Um, I dunno, I planned on being a mom of two, so I'll manage? What are you asking, lady?!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
      Pregnancy Ticker
  • I don't know if its necessarily weird or not, but I am always sooo exhausted. I haven't been able to sleep for more than an hour consistently for the last month and it really gets under my skin when someone TELLS ME I look miserable. Gee thaaaanks. Then when I tell them I'm just tired they begin to talk about how I should "get use to it" because I "sure wont get any more sleep once that baby gets here." Seriously? Just give me my stack of candy bars and go pee up a rope you stupid cashier lady. lol

Another would have to be when I'm asked if I'm sure there's only one in there. Ummm... YES. It's 2015, the quality of everything is so much better! You can even see her hair in my ultrasound. I'm positive there's only one!
  • A distant cousin told me that if I needed the breastfeeding 'videotaped' then he'll do it. WTF!?!?!?

I think it's funny when people ask "how are you feeling?" Especially in the last couple weeks (I'm 39+2). Um, how do you THINK I'm feeling? Especially if you have kids, you know what pregnancy feels like.

Omg this is everything! I'm so sick of the daily text messages asking how I'm feeling or if the baby is coming today. I feel the same as yesterday only more uncomfortable and if I flippin knew when he was coming I'd let you know. Get out my inbox people. :)
  • Just the other day a stranger in her car rolled down her window was laughing and saying I have a basketball in my shirt and I wasn't fooling anyone.
  • "All we talk about is pregnancy. Can you just get over yourself? It's old news."
  • I was at an ultrasound and the woman refered to my daughters vagina as a cheese burger u.u
  • I was getting some opinions on Facebook about doing newborn pictures. The wife of my husband's boss sent me a private message saying she has a nice camera and offered to photograph the birth!
We do hang out with them socially at times but its not like we are super close. So....umm, awkward! I don't want anyone in the delivery room with me except my husband ....and if I chose someone else to be in there and see my vagina on display, it would not be her! I just told her that we weren't interested in photgraphing the birth....but I wanted to say 'oh, hell no!'
  • Today before one of my classes one of my students asked why your moods change in pregnancy and I swear on everything I thought she asked why your boobs change. It very much caught me off guard! I'm so glad that wasn't the question she asked, though!
  • When I started telling people about my pregnancy, one person told me that if we decided we didn't want the baby they would take it. They sounded very serious so I thought I misheard them and asked them to repeat themselves... They said the same thing again!

    Yikes!

I just had a whole foods employee look down on me for not having a home birth. It isn't the norm here. Birthing centers with midwives are a very popular choice for women who want to go a more natural route. I was very confident saying that I was giving birth in a hospital. Pretty sure she would have fainted if I said I'm not against epidurals. It's so weird how women judge others on very personal subjects!
