How many weeks are you? 4w5d=5 weeks?

This is my second pregnancy but I never figured this out with my first...For example: if you are 4 weeks 5 days, are you 4 weeks or 5? If you are 16 weeks 1 days are you 16 weeks or 17? Once you pass the week mark, do you move on to the next week? Thanks for answering my stupid question!

  • I'm ... not really sure what you're asking here, so please excuse me if my answer seems simplistic.

If you're 4 weeks 5 days, you've completed four weeks and five days of pregnancy. Once you've completed four weeks and seven days, you'll have completed five weeks. So you're at "5 weeks pregnant" when you've completed five weeks and not before.

Note that just like centuries (1980 was in the twentieth century), at 4w5d, you're within the fifth week -- but people don't generally refer to that, because it's more confusing. Tickers, info sites, etc, generally refer to weeks you've completed.

  • For some reason, I feel like when people have completed a week, they will say they are the next week pregnant. So if someone is 4 weeks, 5 days, they would say they are 5 weeks pregnant.

Thanks for the response. I actually do get that, I guess what I'm looking for is the verbage people use depending on how many weeks they have completed.

I'm guessing that's just rounding. Five is close enough to seven that if they want to give an answer in whole numbers of weeks, they can just say "five", since it's closer than "four", even though 4w5d is more correct.

Lots of people who are not pregnant/etc just want it in months, and that's even worse, imho, because months don't evenly divide out into weeks, lol.

  • I round either way depending on where I am. Currently I'm 4 weeks 5 days so I'll say. "I'm almost five weeks" Or when I was 4 weeks 2 days, for example I'd say "just over 4 weeks". That's what I use in convos with people who already know like family and whatnot. When looking at info sites I just round down. It's just simpler that way for me.

This. If someone were to ask me how far along a was and I rambled it off in days they would probably think I'm crazy anyway, counting my 9 months down to the day.

  • With DS I'd round it... 5 weeks 2 days, I'd say 5 weeks. 5 weeks 4 days I'd say 6 weeks. But realistically if someone's asking you how far along you are just tell them in months. Using the smaller number will also make you feel better. So the first half say you're 3 months along but the second half say you have 3 months left.
