High-Risk Pregnancy

High AFI

Anyone else dealing with an AFI at 24 or greater? Just freaking out a little!

Re: High AFI

  • How far along are you?  I had high AFI at an u/s at 28w -- the tech's first question was if I had taken my GTT yet.  I had just failed the 1hr and was taking the 3hr in a couple days.  Elevated blood sugar is a common cause.

I did end up getting a GD diagnosis for the second pregnancy and have been diet controlling my sugar since.  I had another u/s earlier this week (33w) and my AFI is "high-ish" but not technically outside of normal.  So it has partially resolved on it's own, hopefully will remain in the normal range as long as I keep my sugar in check.

  • Me! At 21 weeks I was told it was 23.8 (97th percentile) and again at 25 weeks it was 24. I was already on pelvic rest due to marginal placenta previa, so same precautions. I cut down on sugar big time during the three weeks after they first told me and it obviously did nothing. They're waiting until the normal 28 weeks to test me for GD. 60% of the time polyhydramnios has no cause.... What did they tell you about it? Just curious.
  • I too have high AFI. My GD test came back normal. I am 2 days shy of 34 weeks and they are monitoring my AFI and the baby (baby has a dilated kidney) by doing US every 2 weeks. I have my next one scheduled this coming week. Nevertheless, I will have my bags packed in case my water breaks early since this is a common issue with too much AF.
