i don't know if any of you feel this way but I'm hesitant to have sex during my tww just in case it interfered with implantation or anything. Is this silly?
I never really thought of that, I think our doctors would tell us if it was not a good idea. Just don't get too crazy!! I think I'll have to ask th doc today.
Married May 2009, TTC since November 2012 (Together since 2006 ish - had my eyes on him since 2001)
Me: 32 (33 in May), Him: 37 (January)
DX: Me: High Prolactin, Possible Autoimmune Disease Issues, though RE not concerned (?) New RE has a plan!!
Him: Minor Varicocele, low morphology, slightly low count
History:
Beta 5/9/2016 BFP!! Embryo transfer scheduled for April 28, 2016 and beta test May 9, 2016 (day after Mother's Day!) Transfer Meds include: Lupron Depot (4/1), Minivelle Patch (every 3rd day), Estradiol (3x daily), Amoxicillin, Progesterone in Oil, Methylprednisonlone. Lovenox and baby asprin added after transfer.
3/22/16 - Sono Saline ultrasound cyst to be aspirated on 4/1/16 if not cleared up by 3/29 US - It cleared on its own Retrieval 3/4/16 - 26 eggs retrieved, 23 mature, 20 fertilized, 14 embryos currently frozen Starting IVF Stims on +/- Feb 22, 2016 HSG scheduled for 1-26-16 - All clear "beautiful uterus" (though inverted)
Switched clinics and now prepping for IVF in February / March
What part of sex would interfere with implantation? When a fertilized egg "hatches" it doesn't just bounce or float around in ur uterus. It's very sticky, and can't just be knocked or shaken loose if that's what ur asking. Ur fine to have sex, it's either going to implant or not..there's nothing that can be done (or avoided) to change it.
Good luck to u! Hood u get ur BFP!
We were told to abstain during the tww. When I asked our favorite nurse why she said it has nothing to do with implantation. It was in case results were bfn, they didn't want the woman blaming herself for it not working. It was more of a mental precaution.
I never did either. When Doing ivf the doctors usually tell you not to until a pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound (10 weeks or so) so I figure don't want to chance it.
We are on IUI #2 and our Doc just said to "be gentle" during the TWW and to take it easy 7-10dpiui bc that's when implantation typically happens. But with me she was talking about taking it easy with exercise. Every doc is different and depending on the procedure you had done may alter the docs recommendations.
@pumaprnc7 Can I please ask you how it ups your chances? Did you get a BFP while doing the deed during your 2WW? I too was told by my RE no sex until the first ultra sound... Not exactly sure why I know she mentioned about rough stuff but not to the T what they said or meant by it.... XoXo
Another silly thing I'm worried about, we are considering going fishing Sunday in our 18ft boat...there could be 5ft waves and I go for beta Monday. Not sure if I want to be bouncing around until I know if I'm pregnant
RE's take the "better safe than sorry" stance on everything. There is absolutely no evidence that sex/bouncing/working out or anything else negatively effects implantation. That being said, I would just follow whatever ur RE's advice is
@junicek i feel like REs are getting a bit of a bad rap as being risk avoiders, but just bc it works for one person, doesn't mean its safe. I have two friends I think of when I question my activities. One miscarried her second child after a minor slip in the bathtub that sprained her wrist. My other friend survived a motorcycle crash at 10 weeks that killed her DH, crushed her leg and hip, and had her hospitalized undergoing surgeries for months; her beautiful baby girl just turned 1.
What I learned from their struggles is that there is absolutely no way to tell what is safe and what is not. IMO: Listen to your RE, minimize risk when possible, and make sure you are happy.
@HBamama2B how is it a "bad rap" to be a risk avoider? They're doctors, of course they are going to tell u to avoid risks. The fact still remains there is no evidence that ANYTHING can be done or avoided that negatively effects implantation. This isn't giving re's a bad rap, it's just a well documented fact.
For IUIs I definitely had sex during 2ww (and was encouraged to) but told not to during IVF/FET 2ww..... I didn't think to question it, and not sure I buy it, but my RE mentioned something about uterine contractions during an orgasm (not the actual act of sex itself, though).
@mclorn I've heard the same thing. I think with IVF they try to "perfect" all chances of implantation given the costs of it and how hard it is on the body, so they advise not to do anything to risk it no matter how remote the chances. I've also read on these boards of exercise restrictions for post IVF for that reason and those restrictions aren't given to non-IVFers
Married to DH 10/6/12
TTC since 5/14
Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)

6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
@Rachd110 that's interesting because when I was on crinone my dr said it was fine to have sec
Me too. I specifically asked about this and RE said it was fine. It does not hurt DH at all and will not effect the crinone in your body.
Married: 8/29/2009 TTC- since we got married (off and on) TTC with focus: Since July 2015
Currently had 2 rounds of failed IUIs, failed TI monitored cycle December 2015: Starting 1st IVF cycle January 2016: Retrieval March 2016: Pending Transfer (I have 3 PGS tested embryos waiting for a womb) April 2016: BFP, the old fashioned way.
@tripledaggerWed95976 Ok. I'm sorry if my comment offended or bothered you, especially as it was a very personal share. I think you may have misunderstood my point/comment.
My RE has never really weighed in at all one way or another. I guess it's the desperation when you start to think is it this or that which prevented me from conceiving for the last 18 months? A girl gets desperate
@junicek - I too feel hesitant. The rational part of my brain knows its fine to, but for whatever reason I'm so overly cautious that it's hard to get in the mood during the tww sometimes. That being said... I've loosened the reigns quite a bit lately as we've kind of given up trying naturally at all so sex has become just sex again... not baby making haha.
I know that I probably will avoid it during the tww when I do my next IVF round just because I'll want to stack the odds in my favour regardless of how silly it might be. How you feel is how you feel. It's normal to be weary, but try and remember that if you ARE in the mood, there is no reason you shouldn't feel secure in enjoying some sexy time with your hubby. Do what feels right for you I guess is all I'm saying.

I'm at least avoiding my vibrator during the TWW...
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus! fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
DH and I had sex during my 2ww multiple times and we were fine. Just don't be rough and I think you're good. Also, I don't think going out on a boat would affect anything. Just my take on things!

DH: 29, SA - Great
Married: June 12,2011
TTC #1: 1/2014
Diagnosis: Hypothalamic Amenorrhea
