Using a yoga ball to reduce hip pain?

DS has dropped very low, and the pressure is causing me a substantial amount of hip pain. I've been told that bouncing and rolling on a yoga ball will help with the pain, but I have also read that bouncing/rocking on the ball is how many people get their LOs to drop lower for birth. I guess he's already dropped as far as he will before labor, but would using the ball just make the pain worse?

Re: Using a yoga ball to reduce hip pain?

  • It should make it feel better by stretching put the muacles/ligaments. I've had bad hip pain for a few weeks. The more I stretch, the better it feels.

  • I've been having really bad hip and back pain the last week and sitting on an exercise ball has helped relieve the pain.
  • Yes, my exercise ball has been great! I rarely bounce, but I do a lot of rolling (side to side and front to back) which helps loosen and stretch everything out.
  • Yes, it is good for both!! The ball helps SO much for by back and hip pain. I resort to that instead of the couch now.
  • I love my ball! I even do homework on it :)
  • Having an exercise ball at work has made a world of difference. I use it at my desk all day instead of a chair and I feel much better at the end of the day. I don't bounce, but I do roll around (front to back and side to side) all the time.

My yoga ball is hands down the best pregnancy purchase I've made. It's now to the point where sitting on the ball is more comfortable than most chairs, sofa, etc. I sit on it to fold clothes, watch TV, everything. I don't really bounce either, but stretch back and forth, side to side. I have had bad pelvic & pubic bone pain for at least the past 8-10 weeks. It used to give me more long-term relief (less pain walking around, etc), now the pain relief isn't quite so long, but still works for maybe an hour before the stiffness comes back.
  • My chiropractor and yoga ball are my best friends currently.
I do small circles to stretch the hips and relieve pain between dr visits. They are worth the purchase.
  • I just got a yoga ball yesterday. My hips have been killing me and making it so hard to get good sleep. I hope this helps me as much as it has helped you guys!
  • I used the ball last night, not a lot of bouncing but rocking in circular motions. I woke up this morning with zero pain. I was so comfortable that I almost forgot I was even pregnant! I can't wait to try it out before I go back to work tomorrow. Since I spend nine hours a day standing and walking about 8 miles on average I'm often in severe pain by the end of the day. If this helps like it did last night I'll be able to handle another month of pregnancy if DS decides to hang out a bit longer.

  • I got told to try a yoga ball because baby is lying back to back. If you sit on it with your knees above your hips for about ten minutes every so often it should help because I'm getting sore backs and hip pain, another position is to lean over then ball
