Sub chorionic hemorrhage... Anyone?

TMI POST...
Im so confused... My edd is May 4th which makes me 8w5d today.
At 6w I had a gush of watery blood followed by some brown spotting which lasted a day or so - and an ultrasound which showed a gestational sac and yolk sac. At 7w had a follow up u/s that showed baby with heartbeat of 130 measuring right on time.
At 7w3d I started spotting at 8w (Wednesday) I called dr and went for another u/s - saw baby and heartbeat of 154... Did not receive a call Thursday or Friday from dr and assumed everything was ok. Friday pm around 6 I had a couple of gushes of bright red fresh blood - it stopped within the hour, no clots, no cramps but my lower back did hurt for quite a while that night. I called dr immediately and he said I am most likely miscarrying- I had no idea what to expect - he said if I am dizzy or soaking through a pad an hour to go to hospital - and call office on Monday - they will check to make sure everything passed.
I stopped bleeding soon after I got off the phone- spotted all night and next day.
I called office today and nurse scheduled an u/s for this evening and told me they found a sub chorionic hemorrhage at my last u/s. (Thanks for letting me know! Ugh)
She said it was small and I swear she said it was on the outside of my uterus?!?!
Does anyone have experience with this? I feel like I am in limbo of not knowing if I miscarried, if not, is it inevitable?
Sorry for such a long post...
TIA

  • Im so sorry this is happening! Your situation is unique and I've never been in your shoes. I can say I've read a lot of posts about doctors saying someone is possibly miscarrrying but it doesn't turn out to be the case, but sometimes it is true. It sounds like an ultrasound is a good route to check and see what's going on. Good luck to you, I hope everything works out.

I has a similar gush of blood at 13 weeks with my son because of "build-up" near the cervix...though I would imagine it was a similar kind of hemorrhage. Everything was fine once the blood cleared out and the lining stabilized. I believe that a least one other woman here mentioned having this in a previous post (though I don't remember which one!) I hope everything turns out well! Fx!
Eta : they put me on bed rest for only a few days right after, then I was able to resume activities as usual.
  • Wow, I haven't had any experience with that but I'm sorry you're having to go through all of this! FX for a good outcome this evening!

  • I had a SCH with my last pg. I never had bleeding but I was told (and also
heard from a lot of ladies here) that bright red bleeding can be fairly normal with a SCH. I think it was kind of irresponsible of them to not tell you you had this or what to expect with it.
Fingers crossed everything looks okay and that's all it is!
  • I'm not sure what she would mean by it being outside of the uterus, that's just weird to me, I'm not nurse/dr, though.  I have had them, and yes, bleeding happens.  If it's not solid bleeding with cramps, it shouldn't be an issue (again, not a medical professional).  I can't say for sure whether a miscarriage is inevitable, everyone's situation is different.  An SCH can cause a miscarriage because it causes the baby to detach from your uterus, which has happened to me a few times.  I have a huge SCH right now and haven't had any bleeding with it, which surprises me.  I had smaller ones with my ds and I did bleed a few times with him.  I really don't have any definite answers for you, but I have been in your situation and its stressful. Hugs to you!  I hope everything goes well at your u/s.  KUP.
  • I had a SCH with my last pregnancy. I bled heavily from 10 weeks on. The pocket of blood is in between the sac and the lining of your uterus, not outside the uterus. My SCH turned into a placental abruption at 25 weeks so my son had to be delivered via emergency c/s. This is a very rare outcome, though. Most SCH's resolve as baby grows and pushes the clot out. Please do take it easy though and try not to lift anything that might aggravate it. I was on strict bed rest and then hospital bed rest whild I was bleeding. I'll be sending you good thoughts and prayers that yours resolved quickly!

  • I had one of these on my last pregnancy.  My pregnancy ended in MC, but NOT because of that.  They have to be pretty big to hurt the pregnancy.  One of the things that helped me out a lot was "research" I did a generic Google search of positive outcomes with SCH (or a similar phrase) and came up with results from all kinds of forums where women had successful pregnancies with SCH.  Try it, it might ease your mind somewhat :)

  • Happy to hear good news... Just wanted to say that they are fairly common. I knew a girl with a huge SCH and the Dr. expected her to miscarry. And now she's due in a month. FX for a safe and healthy pregnancy.

  • I am currently going through the exact same thing ! I started bleeding a week ago more like spotting and then last Thursday I had huge gush of blood while I was at work of all places. I went to the hospital that night and they pretty much assumed I was having a miscarriage. I followed up with my OB the next day and they found the hemorrhage on the ultrasound. So far baby is doing great but I'm still super scared. I'm 8 weeks and due May 5th.
  • I started bleeding heavily at 10weeks. I was told at the ER I was having a threatened miscarriage due to a sub. Hemmorage. I stopped bleeding that day but it was heavy (no clots or cramps). Baby was there with a strong heartbeat, my cervix was also closed. The dr at the hospital put me on pelvic rest. I went to my ob that Monday and she gave me an ultrasound. She told me baby is ok and I had a less than 5% chance of miscarrying. She said she honestly had no concerns especially because I had no bleeding at all since that day. She told me to just take it easy and to not hold my youngest child. I'm now 21 weeks as of today and when I had my anatomy scan 2 weeks ago nothing was said besides everything being perfect with the baby etc
