Fears 9 weeks

For the most part I feel great. Morning sickness is minimal. However I feel huge. I am starting out at 200 pounds. I am a daily gym rat who loves food. Yes I am overweight but alot is muscle but also fat. I just lost 10 pounds before I found out we were expecting. I am scared of gaining to much weight and never get it off. I also had minimal bleeding last week. But everything was normal at the doc. So I slowed down from kickboxing. Does anyone have this experience?

Re: Fears 9 weeks

  • I'm not a gym rat and I wasn't active before, so I'm not doing much more than going for walks. I am, however, starting out at 200 pounds. A few years ago I was almost 250 and, after lots of hard work, I got down to 160. Since I got married though, I've been struggling with my weight again. So I've been freaking out about the extra 40lbs for months already and now I'm pregnant. My poor husband doesn't get the anxiety this is causing me. He thinks I'm beautiful and thinks I should be so focus on the excitement of having a baby that the baby weight shouldn't bother me. I just have this huge fear that I'll put too much weight on while pregnant and that I'll never get down to a weight that I'm comfortable with again.

  • I am a bundle of worries right now! I am worried about everything.

Regarding weight gain: remember that we're not really supposed to be eating much more than we were before and shouldn't really even be gaining any weight in the first trimester. I think a lot of women worry about gaining too much but keep in mind, your body won't do this without you unless you have an imbalance somewhere. If you eat a decent diet and continue to be active, you can keep your weight gain in check.

I also have had spotting on two occasions. It can be totally normal. When I asked my doctor how common it was she actually said 'almost all my patients have some of it'. That doesn't mean you should not get it checked out by a doctor, but you also shouldn't obsess about it. Also, do yourself a favor and don't read any more about this online.

  • I have never been a gym rat but have worked hard to lose around 20 pounds so I do understand your fear. I keep telling myself that I need to be healthy for me and the baby and I will deal with the weight after I have the baby. I tell myself I am not eating for 2 and I don't need to double everything but still allowing myself to have my cravings, in moderation. Just remind yourself that it will be worth it and you can always lose what baby weight you gain.
