3rd Trimester

Labor at work

I am 29 weeks, work 12 hour shifts and have been asking my boss for over 4 months to switch my schedule to where I am not working 12 hours. I get really bad Braxton hicks contractions when I work past 7 hours because of my job I'm always on my feet or if I'm sitting I'm half hunched over. I'm afraid because my manager won't switch my schedule I'm going to go into labor while at work. My question is had anyone else had this issue and if you did go into labor while at work what did you do?

Not to sound harsh but this is one of those situations where you have to figure out what is best for you and your child. You're only 29 weeks. You are not even close to full term yet. If you've asked previously to cut down/switch your shift and nothing has happened you need to take further measures. At some point (sooner than later) you need to decide if you just let it slide and have possible problems in your pregnancy or do what you need for you and your child to ensure both of you are healthy. Good luck and I do hope the best for you.

  • Speak to your doctor about this and see if there is anything they can do. Perhaps having a doctor's note limiting your duties may help your boss realize quick that your request is serious.

As for going into labor at work... not sure I understand your question as to what would one do if that happens. Do you mean, stay and finish your shift? I thought that if you go into labor, especially if you are so early along in your pregnancy, that you need to call your doctor and possibly l&d immediately.
  • I have someone at work who will drive me home in my car if needed. Then I'll have someone in my family take her home. I cleared it with my boss last week.
  • When is everyone planning on finishing work? I am finishing up at 37 weeks (if he comes on time) so i have 3 weeks to mentally and physically prepare myself. I find i am already getting really uncomfortable at work and just counting down the days i can relax.
