2nd Trimester

Worried about PGP so early on.

I realized yesterday the severe pain I have been experiencing is pelvic girdle pain. I only started back work 2 weeks ago (serving in a restaurant) at 14 weeks pregnant and it has increased greatly since starting back. It had already started around 13 weeks but got much worse. I work M-F and by Thursday I can barely walk.

I'm worried that I'm having such bad pain so early on without even having a big bump yet. I have stayed active my whole pregnancy even in first tri I still was in the gym 4-5 days a week, and I of course walk my entire shift at work. I have skipped the last 3-4 days at the gym because I know I need to rest. I don't pull any doubles at work to make it any harder. By the end of each day due to the walking I've done, when I sit on the toilet just to pee it makes me want to cry with the sharp pain. I look like a fish out of water flopping around to pull myself off the couch due to pain, sitting and standing back up and turning over in bed is getting really difficult, and when I sneeze or cough it causes pain.

I'm just now 16 weeks tomorrow and I was wondering what anyone else has done for PGP and has it ever lead to bed rest?

Re: Worried about PGP so early on.

  • I have no advice but wanted to let you know that I am also a server and was experiencing PGP right around 14 weeks too! It lasted for about two weeks consistently then I'd feel it intermittently for a week or two. At 19 weeks I'm smooth sailing so far! Again no advice just my experience.

  • That's great that it's let up! Hopefully it does the same for me. We will see!
  • I was experiencing PGP early on after walking a lot. Once I realized what it was, I've taken a lot of preventative measures that have nearly taken away the pain.

I would say, do lots of research and see what works for you! For me, avoiding standing on one leg (ex, shaving legs in shower or while putting pants on) and being careful not to stretch my legs too far apart (ex, getting out of the car- pivot your entire body out vs. one leg at a time) has helped to not aggravate it. I also got an exercise ball which has helped with lower back, hip, and pelvic pain. Hope you find something that works for you!!
  • Putting on pants is the worst! I dread it every time but I've started to sit to put them on which still hurts shifting to the hip that's hurting to pull that leg up. I'm on my 2nd day off work in a row and have spent most of the time sitting but it's not eased up over the weekend. Hope it does soon
