So my confession is - I knew people were trolling and I don't even find it the least bit funny and I don't understand why any of you think it's at all funny. I follow these threads to get to know people and know what I have in common with them, not to watch them play the part of some made-up character because they feel the rest of us are just too boring and not Jerry Springer enough.
I think making fun of Donald Trump is funny, though.

I'm sorry that you don't have a sense of humor and you can't take a joke.

Clearly you should post this on an UO thread because you're the only one with this opinion. Just laugh about it, or ignore it.
I have to agree with those that don't find it humorous. Just because some people don't find it funny, doesn't mean we need to "lighten up". I'm sure I find some things funny that others think aren't humorous at all. Difference of opinion.
There's no need to "lighten up" because we have a different sense of humor.
Not liking one joke does not equal no sense of humor at all. I understand why the trolls would think it was funny, I just don't understand why people who spent time and seemingly emotion trying to patiently deal with them think it's funny that they were tricked. Then again, I'm not saying "you should not be amused by this," I'm saying "I don't understand why you are."
Lots of overlap between flame-free confessions and unpopular opinions, anyway. As evidenced by the trolls' chosen subjects.

I agree it wasn't funny and my sense of humour and ability to take a joke is fine.
I just don't find joking about abandoning pets or women being too emotional for certain jobs funny. Where I grew up it was common for people to drive out into the country and drop their unwanted pets off on the side of the road. My parents frequently had fully declawed, litter trained, friendly cats show up in their yard. Luckily my parents could afford the $75 it cost to surrender a pet at the humane society, and they'd bring the cats in.
In my field close to half of all graduates are women but women only occupy 1 in 7 of the top positions. While overt sexism is uncommon, there is a huge undercurrent of sexism I have to deal with every day because I'm a woman. I can't just be as good as the male candidates, I have to be better, and even then having a uterus might be the reason I don't get a job.
I thought it was funny, but is that really where the line should be? Can't something be entertaining even if you aren't rolling on the floor laughing? Would a day of confessions about how someone ate too many cookies that someone brought to the office (...guilty) have been a more enjoyable Friday afternoon read?
Also, I've been dying to use this gif for something, so I'm just going to set this here:
I don't find the trolling funny either. We have enough actual/ridiculous trolling and I think people doing it to be funny is just stupid and childish. I have an excellent sense of humor, btw, but that shit is just dumb.
Sorry to change the topic a bit, but just to confirm FFFC stand for something like flame free Friday confessions? Or? I got the UO Thursdays and WTF Wednesday. Are there other day specific themed discussions?

In response to the people who didn't think the trolling was funny - if I'm being totally honest, as one of the people who totally fell for the trolling, I felt a little embarrassed for reacting to the posts and likely will just ignore flammable opinions in the future. I'm not mad or holding a grudge or anything like that, I can be a good sport and admit you totally got me, but it did make me feel foolish.

This. Have a political debate if you want - I just don't get the point of faking a certain opinion just to rile people up.
I put it in the same category as the threads with the "do you think I am...??" titles to make everyone think it's another pee stick post. We get enough actual drive bys and BSC trolls already, I don't see the humor in pretending to be yet another twatwaffle.
If y'all are bored, maybe start a GTKY thread instead? There are a lot of newbies - maybe another round of NHIE?

ANOTHER gtky? We've had 94738837 this week. Do we really need more???

I haven't been around too much in the last few weeks, so you could be totally right. I just saw the comment that the trolling was because it's been boring here ... so I don't know what the solution is. More gif parties?
PS - Stanley gifs always crack me up.

The last week has felt like all gtky(which lets face it, people rarely read through) and wto/TWW. Barely anything else. So boring.
As someone who engaged with the trolling, I'm mostly just happy that PPs aren't really that crazy. Was it fun(ny)? IMO, meh, but I respect that people found it to be entertaining. I'm not mad about it, and I understand it's been quieter around here as of late, but are we really so desperate to lighten things up that we are trolling for sport?
Other boards/groups I am a part of have randoms posts where you can just talk about whatever. It can be a good conversation starter. Also Monday Pity Party B*tchfest.

I'm down for MPPB... or would it be MPPBF? Either way - that's me almost every day, so, I'd be in to that.

Yeah, MPPBF. Also there's always First World Problems. Not everyone appreciates that one, though.

First World Problems were hot at my job last year. It was actually pretty hilarious.
As another who was taken in with the trolling, I was just relieved those ladies didn't actually think it's ok to neglect pets and that women are less-than. Abandoning animals and sexism aren't joking topics to me, so regardless of whether I thought someone was trolling with these topics in the future, I'd probably speak up again just in case they were serious. However, I can appreciate that the trolling was done in jest with the intent to be entertaining.
I do apologize for upsetting anyone. That wasn't my intent.
It has made me realize that this is definitely not a place to express REAL controversial opinions because the women on this board can't handle a difference of opinion in a constructive manner.
This is definitely not the place to discuss REAL issues that do not concern your uterus.
@dixie7701: I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I'm not upset with you or @BeachTigress at all. Like I said, I may not find the topics discussed to be funny in and of themselves, but I get that the trolling was meant to be funny. Different strokes. I'm sure I find plenty of things funny that others wouldn't, just like I'm sure I have opinions that others wouldn't agree with. I can appreciate the humor in tricks and gotchas, so we're cool.
About discussing controversial topics on here, I think there's plenty of room for hot-button discussion. Of course, the liveliness of discussion would likely escalate in relation to how controversial the topic happens to be, but I think it can be done. Let's say you truly believe your opinions expressed earlier in the thread re: women hypothetically speaking. I may totally disagree with you and would say so, but I would also realize it's your prerogative to hold such a view just as it is mine to oppose. Now, for a controversial topic such as animal abandonment for example, yes, there will be sharper push-back because the issue is one of morality and abuse of a living creature, rather than a difference of opinion.
Ultimately, I say go ahead and speak your mind if you choose. Will it turn ugly? It's always possible on a public forum. However, it might lead to a discussion to get someone to think about an issue in a different way they haven't considered, foster some common ground, or solidify one's own convictions by taking the opportunity to defend them.
I like some of the ideas above for new threads that could add a little variety to the board. I've seen the NHIE threads on a few other boards and it looks fun.
Also, this came up in another thread maybe a week or so ago, but what do people think about maybe having a single thread where newbies can introduce themselves? It's great to have so many new members, but when there are 15 intro posts on the front page it gets really hard to track. I feel like I would be better at reading and responding to intros if they were in a single thread. Plus then if someone doesn't check the board for a few days, they can get caught up on who the newbies are in one place.

Re: FFFC Friday!
Meh, I don't find the trolling very humorous. My sense if humor is plenty robust. :-??
