Preeclampsia Testing - Support needed!

Hi Ladies,
I will be 37 weeks on Sunday and my doctor sent me for preeclampsia testing yesterday because I my diastolic bp was 90 for a second time in 2 weeks. Non-stress test and blood work was normal but there was protein in my urine (.33 they said) so now I'm doing the 24 hour urine test. Has anyone else been through this and had everything come back normal? I'm kind of freaking out and won't be done with the 24 hour urine test until this evening. I tried to find past pre-e discussions but the bump search function failed me.

Re: Preeclampsia Testing - Support needed!

  • Hi! Last week my BP spiked and I did the 24-h urine protein. The minimum/cut-off for diagnosis of Pre-eclampsia is 300mg in 24 hrs. Mine was 253mg. So I was categorized as Gestational Hypertension instead of Preeclampsia. The management goals are basically the same: (1) BP control, (2) seizure prevention, (3) deliver at 34 or 37 weeks (depending on whether or not you have severe features -- based on 2013 ACOG Task Force on Preeclampsia), and (4) post-partum monitoring of up to 6 weeks. No need to freak out, just follow your doctor's advice and monitor. Since you're almost 37weeks, I'd say you're almost at the end of your pregnancy. I myself will be 37 weeks on Monday. My OB will see me then and assess what our next steps will be. I'm hoping I get to deliver soon.

  • My Bp has been running in the 150's/90's (and a couple times 100). The protein in my urine is in the 500's and 600's. My blood work comes back clean though. My Bp and protein are definitely high, but so far stable. Its been like this for a couple weeks now. My Dr has me on bed rest until delivery. I am supposed to watch for signs of high Bp and come in if I have any. Otherwise I've just been having weekly biophysical and Doppler ultrasounds. We all thought I'd go early, but so far I'm 37 weeks 3 days.
  • Thanks ladies. I brought my 24 sample into L&D and they said if I don't hear from them tonight then everything is fine so fingers crossed that I don't get a call. Best of luck to both of you!
  • I'm resurrecting this post, has anyone else gone through this at a later part? I'm 38 weeks, scheduled for a C Section in 7 days, and I'm doing 24 hours in the hospital for a urine test. My BP spikes when I'm active, yesterday it was 167/90, but it always drops to 110/70 after hours of rest. Was anyone here released after a 24 hold? Anyone kept to induce since its this late? Not looking for advice because I know that's a professional thing, just wondering how it went for others.

I was induced Friday at 39w 4d due to a couple high BP readings and protienuria. I was up set because I wanted to birth naturally at my birthing center. I ended up getting 3 doses of cytotec because my cervix wasn't dilated. The cytotec made contractions really close together with hardly any breaks so I got the epidural at 4cm and was able to rest, I hadn't slept at all the night before. They broke my water at 7cm and about an hour later I had my beautiful little girl in my arms. I was a little sad that I didn't follow my birth plan at all, but it doesn't really matter any more.
