Sleeping in Room

Our baby will be 2 weeks on Saturday. She's been sleeping in Rock N Play and/or Pack N Play in our room at night. My husband has gone back to work and wants to transition her to nursery/crib. I'm very nervous because I know sleeping in room reduces risk of SIDS. When did you move your baby to crib or when do you plan to?

Re: Sleeping in Room

  • The current plan is to transition her to her room at 4 months; we'll see if mommy is ready for her to be that far away though.

  • Our plan right now is to move ours between 3-6 months, depending on when I feel comfortable doing so. Right now I love having him right next to me in the pack n play. Once we do move him, the nursery is right next to our room and I have a video baby monitor I'll have on.

We are using his crib in his nursery for naps during the day so he gets used to it (and then I turn the monitor on).
  • We transitioned a few nights ago at about 10 days old. Sleeping 3.5-4 hour stretches (knock on wood)
  • Oh god! I'm such a weirdo!! Each of my girls stayed in our room until after they turned one. I'll be doing the same this time. I get so stressed out having them in the other room. I had a baby monitor, but anything sent me running to the room. It helped keep me sane to just roll over and see them.
  • We went with the recommended 6 months with our first and plan to again this time.
  • Our plan is a little before 4 months, which is when I'll be going back to work. However this is totally dependent on how well he is sleeping. Right now I can't even imagine having to leave the room, as often as he is awake. But as soon as we can get some kind of schedule down, I'll be transitioning him, to the crib. I try to get him in the crib for at least 1 nap a day to get him used to it, but that doesn't always happen.

You're not a weirdo.  DD (18 mos) still spends about half of her nights in our room.  Everyone says this will come back to burn us later.  We'll see...

  • Ours will be in our room for the first year-ish. Mostly because we are moving in a week and losing the number of bedrooms we have so we'll be setting his crib up in our room. If not for that we would transition at about 6 months.

  • We just moved her into the nursery (I was nursing her in there anyway). I keep the monitor by me so I can see and hear her, and my hubby gets better sleep. DD2 is 1 month.

  • 3-4 months. Hopefully we will have a good nighttime routine at that point.

I love having my babies so close!! DH works 3rd shift, so a lot of nights me and all the girls pile up in our room to sleep!! I love it! On the weekends DH doesn't work he lets the girls take their naps in the room with us!
I hope it doesn't come back to burn us either!!

  • With DD1 I said 6 months and then moved her at 3. We were waking eachother up. Now, with DD2 we will likely go longer because we have a much bigger bedroom and the nursery is clear across the house.
  • With ds1 he was in our room till he was one. He was alays a very quiet crier (ds2 is so far too), we plan on doing the same this time. :-)

  • We will move LO to the room next door soon, but not up to the nursery until 6 months at least. Nursery is on the second floor, our room is on the first.

We still co-sleep with our 19month old and LO will be going in a co-sleeper when he arrives. The current plan is to move DS1 to his room when he is about 2 though i'm fairly relaxed about this and Wont do it till he's ready.
We never planned to cosleep but ds1 just wouldn't sleep in a cot in our room and after trying everything for months were caved when he was about 8 months and let him sleep in our bed. Was the best decision we made and he has been sleeping for 12 hours ever since!

It's funny but they recommend keeping them in your room for at least 6 months but somehow what you hear is " put them In their own room at 6 months". I wasnt ready at 6 months and ds1 certainly wasnt. I woulc suggest doing what makes you comfortable as this is the most important thing. I also have a video monitor which reduces my anxiety when ds1 is alone in our bed.

    Same here
  • We had DD1 in our room til 8 months. This one will be in our room til at least 6 months. The girls will be sharing a room, with DD2 on a floor bed, so it'll depend on DD1's maturity too (she'll be 3). We'll have a video monitor up, just to watch that DD2 isn't being squished by her sister :)

  • DS is in his nursery, had been since week 2. We have a Snuza that will go off if he stops breathing. And a video monitor that is next to me or DH, depending on the shift. He often naps in our room in his pack n play. He also naps on our chests or in our arms if he happens to fall asleep there. And he sleeps when I wear him in my wraps.

I was never given a 6 month rule/recommendation. All I have heard was its easier to send then to their nursery when they are sleeping thru the night around 6 months. Which, the way my little man is sleeping, he'd probably never sleep thru the night anyway.
