Ezcema

At my sons 4 month appointment, doctor said he had eczema. He has it on his face, neck, stomach, legs back. Its the most known on his face, which is red mainly. On the other parts of his body he just has little bumps, but doctor said he skin is dry and said it is eczema. She prescribed him with some hydrocortisone.  Anyone else dealing with this?

Hydrocortisone is a steroid cream and skin becomes very dependent on it. I have had extreme eczema my whole life and now I need to put a high dosage of it on even my face. It's awful if I don't use it.
My son has bad eczem (he's 21 weeks old tomorrow) and yesterday our doc said to leave it be as long as possible because we don't want his skin to depend on the cream. If it gets worse or starts to bother him we might reevaluate.

LO is 19 weeks tomorrow. She has severe eczema all over. We have tried everything from Cetaphil to aquaphor to eucerin. We changed her bath soap and formula, but nothing has helped. Pediatrician just prescribed hydrocortisone for 2 weeks. Her skin looks immaculate. The doctor explained that we will not use the steroid as a long-term solution, but it atleast gives her skin a chance to heal and not be so itchy.

I was told by our pedi that my son has a mild case. He told me to try special lotion (aveeno eczema lotion) and do a oatmeal bath (aveeno makes one for babies) if it gets worse. Trying to avoid hydrocortisone cream at this point.

Try California baby calendula lotion. My friend posted pictures of her babies face before and after and it cleared it up.. I think there's is a tiny bit around her checks left. She said she read about it online.

I second the calendula cream! LO had severe eczema for weeks, and with the calendula cream it cleared up in just a few days.

I just noticed a little red patch with raised tiny bumps. My mother in law swears it's from starting a new food. But I think it's eczema or a rash from teething/drooling. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

Try homemade soaps if anyone around you makes them. I found one made with cream and goats milk and it makes her skin very soft. That has cleared my babies everywhere except on her face. I use the baby calendula cream on her face and it's a great alternative to hydrocortisone although I use it sparingly If she is trying to scratch or has a bad flare up. I use the baby calendula cream daily. Also after baths I immediately cover her in aquafor per the sea orders. All this has helped clear 95 percent of it up.

My 4 month baby girl has eczema as well, & according to her Dr. it is related to a milk protein allergy which we discovered when I noticed blood in her diapers. I stopped consuming dairy only, after being told to avoid dairy, soy, and nuts. Since then her skin is so soft and no red bumps. Sometimes behind her knees still gets a little irritated, and the eczema is mild there. Her Dr. also recommended using cetaphil or dove for bathing which we do (we were using baby aveno). Also we bathe her every other day, or sometimes skip 2 - 3 days which helps the most! Her skin is the softest after a few days without a bath. To keep her clean I wipe her down with a warm washcloth after her morning feeding and after her night feeding before bed. Also when the skin is wet and I apply vaseline after, (it locks in the moisture from the water). In addition to Vaseline we use a cream called Vanicream which has a National Eczema Association approval stamp on it, and it does not have harmful ingredients, or any that are prone to causing allergic reactions.

Her Dr. also suggested using hydrocortisone cream but I have decided not to as it doesn't seem she needs it. Another sug. was to use a humidifier which I still plan on getting just haven't been able to find the right one. I know this will help because her skin gets dry easily.

My son had it too on his legs and some circles on his chest area.. the doctor told us to use some kind of lotion and unscented soap for about a month and it went away
