Anyone thinking of first birthday party ideas yet?

This has been on my mind now that LO is 9 months old. I think we are going with a winter ONEderland theme but I'm not completely sold on it yet. Anyone have any other ideas they are thinking about? We have the date set because it is 3 days from Christmas. We have to give family a huge heads up so it doesn't get forgotten.

Re: Anyone thinking of first birthday party ideas yet?

  • I actually started thinking about it a couple months ago because I like hosting parties! I'm thinking about either outer space theme or weather theme. If I get time, I want to make a lot of the decorations myself. I better start now!

I think winter onederland sounds cute.

I'm not sure how many people to invite. Low key with family only? We just have several friends with babies too so I feel like I should invite them.

  • We're doing a little monster theme. Several of our friends have babies of similar age (7 of them!) so it will be friends and family. I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine so I've started making monster bibs for the babies to wear instead of party hats, that they can keep instead of favour bags. That's pretty much the extent of my planning. I too would like to make the decorations and things. Pinterest is ruling my life.

But in the scheme of things it will literally just be a nice summer backyard bbq with babies plonked in a blow up pool full of balls.

We are having family only because none of our friends have kids yet. Plus my in-laws place will be at maximum capacity.

Pinterest is ruling my life too! So far I've made a first birthday time capsule for LO and have gotten supplies for a birthday banner.

I love the little monsters idea! Super cute!

  • Monster bibs sound adorable!! My LO was born 5 days before Christmas, and I was thinking of keeping it somewhat low key since we'll be stuck indoors. I was also thinking winter ONEderland, and playing up on ice blues, silver and white. I found great ideas for a snowglobe cake (Google those now).
  • We are also having a ONEderland theme party. Her colors will be pink, white and gold. With snowflake decorations and a hot coco station. Her high chair will be decorated like a tutu with balloons on the back. We will also have games/ activities for the kids. Like pin the nose on the snowman and making your own chrismas card since her birthday is December 3rd. Totally excited for it.
  • Haven't thought of a lot for LO because it's just us and my in-laws. No extra babies for a party this year. Planning on a cake for sure but haven't thought of a theme or anything yet. Maybe doctor who or something video game related since I am a nerd like that :) or maybe just simple and easy!
  • Is it bad that I don't want to celebrate one year? I mean, maybe a few pics and hugs for baby from my hubby and I, but I really don't want to do a party. Everyone keeps saying I will regret it, that they only turn 1 once. But I just don't c the point. Baby won't even remember. I feel it's more for me socializing (I hate socializing lol). Will I really regret it? Or it's just a personal preference? Will my baby b upset at me for not making a big deal when she is older? I refused to do a baby shower for myself and I don't regret it But I hope I don't regret the bday thing like ppl r saying I would. If it would make a difference to my baby I would do it. But I feel it won't. Anyways, if your a second or third time mom give me your opinion/experince. (Am i being mean?)
  • We are also having a hot chocolate bar and maybe a chili bar. I have already ordered a highchair tutu for her as well! We are using blues, silver, purples, and some white. Neither DH nor I like pink/red but it has been a little hard to skip so far. I started working on a "watch me grow" timeline using the film strip picture holder from Ikea. It holds 14 photos so we may put a sonogram or maternity one in along with one from birth. I'm decorating the film strip with snowflake stickers and number stickers!

  • @babymokaela I really think it's personal preference. As most things, some just aren't another persons cup of tea.
I don't think I've ever seen a picture of my first birthday, and I don't hate mum and dad for it ;)
  • I went to a one year old party and i was rather annoyed there wasn't food or accommodations for the adults in attendance (just hot dogs to eat...and not even good BBQ'd hot dogs)

I plan on doing an ugly sweater party...I'm not big on decorations so we will probably just re-use the "happy birthday" sign we've had for almost a year now.

Oddly, we are actually having 3 different celebrations:
    1. On his actual birthday--probably just my husband, myself, and maybe another family with a baby.
    2. One with my Husband's side of the family
    3. One with my side of the family
(i should mention we live 1.5 hours away from my husbands family, and close to 7 hours away from my family)

my MIL certainly has a problem with my idea and lack of decorations.  My point is my LO will not remember this...this is a party for Mommy and Daddy surviving the first year! :-)

  • I'm thinking about "Tutu and Ties" (I have b/g twins) their birthday is 4 days after Christmas so I'm thinking of their party on that Sunday.

  • My parents are doing an early, family only, bday for lo over Thanksgiving. We'll be visiting and live pretty far away. After a couple weeks of back and forth with theme and what I like etc., I've decided to just let my mom do her thing since I don't want to argue about every little detail. So I have no clue what the theme will be. DH and I will do a smash cake and balloons on lo's actual bday. Not sure if I'll do a theme, but I'll diy a banner for the highchair and make the cake myself with more than likely a matching little banner for the cake. We won't see his side of the family since we're not planning on traveling there this year and I doubt they'll come see us.
