i know I'm not the only momma expecting multiples on this board! How are all my other multiple momma's doing?? We got to hear the little love's heartbeats today! Baby A was strong at 115 and Baby B was just as excited at 125! Can't wait to see them again next week!

Hi there twin momma's!

Any specific symptoms that lead you to believe or think you were having twins before it was confirmed. I am interested to hear, as twins run in my family. My mom is a twin , and my dad has twin brothers. I am anxious to find out in a week! Thanks ladies

I won't know for a couple more weeks but twins run heavily on both sides of our families (I have twin brothers, DH is a twin and my MIL is a twin)...so I just wanted to stay posted on this thread. Regardless, twins are amazing and I'm glad that I am surrounded by them in my life!

I was just looking to post this same thread. I found our Thursday that I'm having twins which we kinda expected. But I'm now very nervous and anxious my due date is may 23 oh and I'm a first time mom.

We just found out somewhere between our 7 week ultrasound and 11 week ultrasound we lost one of the twins. Most likely a genetic abnormality.

I can't wait to have my next appt. and then sonogram to see if two are still in there!
I have had a pretty easy first trimester overall - I can't really say that there have been any signs that it was '2'. In fact, I was definitely more nauseous with my daughter (but felt awesome w/my 1st baby - my son). I will say that I feel like I am showing really early - maybe that has been a sign that there are two. When it's not your first baby though I think your body just 'pops' a lot sooner.
Twins don't really run in the family. I have a cousin with fraternal twins but that seems distant to me. I'm 36, so age is probably the main factor on having twins. ?? I'm no expert though!
Sorry to here your news Turtle37. I worry about that. At 7 weeks the sonographer told me they both looked great but not to tell everyone immediately (vanishing twin possibility).

Twins here! Very very unexpected for us since we did IVF with frozen embryo transfer and did just one, which split into two. We took every precaution NOT to have twins, really! But now we will have identicals.

Saw both heartbeats last week and I'm like, "is that what I think it is?!" And the doc is like "you're not gonna believe this..." understatement of the year!

Anyone else with identical twins trying not to rabbit hole on TTTS? Cause I am.

I am carrying identical twins 10wks1day. I have had 4 ultrasounds BC j have pcos which makes me high risk but with identical even higher!! I seen babies last Thurs and both are doing great good strong heart beats I meet my new specialist on Friday... I cannot wait. I hope to be able to see the babies on a regular basis still I have been seeing them weekly the past 4 weeks.. I had a miscarriage previous to this twin pregnancy soo everything freaks me out. Ttts is definitely a concern of mine. Apparently at 24 w they watch me like a hawk and if they start to show signs of that or jump rope w umbelical cords they will remove them and then they would be in nicu until fully developed. Here's to hoping they behave and I can reach 31wks is my goal

Hopes for 31 weeks and no TTTS. I'm only 7 weeks along but have weekly ultrasounds for the next 3 Wednesdays to help keep me sane.

My husband keeps randomly turning to me and saying "wow; we're having twins." He likes to give me a hard time because all through our infertility journey I kept saying how much I didn't want twins!

I thought it might be twins after my symptoms went into hyperdrive really early. We also did fertility treatment (IUI) so I knew that I had 3 follicles. My mind just went to the fact that we had to same number of follicles with our first pregnancy and it resulted in a singleton. I tested out my trigger shot 9 days post trigger and then tested again at 10 days post IUI and got nearly an instant positive. My first beta blood test came back and was 350, second was 1250, and then final was 5500. My numbers were never that high during my singleton pregnancy. Confirmed twins via ultrasound on September 11th (5 wks pregnant). The doctor says we should expect them to be here sometime in April.

I'm really surprised at doctors or sonographers saying not to share your news. We've told people around us, mostly because I'm excited and want to share and would want support should something happen

My 7w 4d checkup on "the Salvadors" went well. Found out the identicals are diamniotic so that reduces the risk of TTTS significantly. I feel like I can breathe a huge sigh of relief and finally start enjoying my pregnancy instead of biting my nails to the next milestone.

Before we knew we were having twins, we were planning on being team green, but now that we have to buy two of everything, well be finding out gender at 9 weeks

How are you finding out at 9 weeks?! I'm 11w5d and DYING to know what mine are.

@kristenterkelsen they had offered me a blood test at my next appointment. The primary reason they do the test is to check for genetic abnormalities but it also tells you the gender of the babies. Because it pulls the babies DNA from your blood...

I asked my doctor about the blood test too, but they told me that would not work with twins. They could not tell one from the other. So glad there is a test that will work! We are going to do an early ultrasound at 15 weeks so get to find out next week

My identical twins that were diagnosed with TTTS at 20 weeks are now healthy 5 year olds. All identical twin moms are scared of it and I would not wish it on anyone but there are happy endings!

TTTS is a Risk, however you should take Solace in the fact that while 1 in 6 MoDi DO get it, the other 5 in 6 DON'T. Become empowered through a program of state of the art Best Practice Surveillance, including Biweekly Sono to check the fluids levels, and daily Weigh In to watch for a weight spike over 2# in 24 hours, which should trigger a call to the medical team for fresh Sono that day. Commencing in Week 22, add MCA Doppler surveillance of both twins to your surveillance regimen. This special ultrasound, originally developed to test for Fetal Anemia, is the only way to reliably detect Twin Anemia Polycythemia Sequence, TAPS. This form of TTTS, does NOT involve whole blood, only Red Cells that are scoured from one twin & deposited into the other, through minuscule vessels deep within the placentation. It is only recently charaterized (2007) & is the cause of the "Potato Tomato Twins" phenomenon that has been seen throughout history, when one twin is bright red from Intact Polycythemia, & the co-twin is Pale White from sometimes severe Anemia. All these steps taken together serve to Arm you against the murderer TTTS in all it's known forms.

I think they just meant don't tell everyone at PTA, all of Facebook, etc. Good news travels faster than bad news. The main reason I didn't tell my family immediately is because I didn't want to make more people keep a secret. We have enormous extended families, tons of family friends from a small town - it's just hard not to tell! I would have told them sad news once I found out. Sure, you would definitely need the support.

But, all that aside, now I'm 14 weeks and BOTH babies are doing fabulous! So excited for twins!

After the blood test for chromosome abnormalities, we found out that one twin is in fact a boy (the sonographer at the NT scan also could tell one is a boy but couldn't get a good angle on the other). So here is how the blood test works for telling the sex for twins: It CAN tell you if they're both girls. There would only be 'X' chromosomes present. The test can also tell you if there is a 'Y' present which = boy, but the test can't tell you how many boys or if it's a boy & a girl.
It took me a while to understand all this!

We hit the less than 1 percent jackpot so to speak and are expecting triplets in April.
I would love to know what they are! With 3 they don't offer the blood test.. and we've been told we may have to wait until 18 weeks to see what they are. That appt is 2 days before Christmas!

Also, try not to worry about TTTS. They've come so far, and they do have ways they can treat it if you do end up with it.

Our gender and anatomy scan is on the 23rd too! I'll be nearly 21 weeks by then. I'm not good at this waiting game!
