Trigger shot - how????

So this is going to be my first IUI. I received my Ovidrel in the mail today and I freaked out! I don't know what I was expecting, but seeing that needle and the diagram/directions of injecting yourself in the stomach sent me into an emotional tailspin. My question is, how do you administer your trigger shot? Do you do it yourself? Have your husband inject you? Bring it to your RE and make them do it? What was your first time like? Is it hard? Is it painful? Would like to hear other women's experience with this....

    I use noveral. Not sure if the needle size is the same but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Just make sure you do it quick. I tried to do it slow the first time and didn't work out very well

    When I did my ivf cycle I did all my injections myself. I'm not gunna lie it made me totally queasy every time (injections in the stomache just give me that yucky feeling). Other than that, yes it stings a bit but it's over quick. The hardest part by far is working up the nerve to stick that needle in. My advise: don't push the needle in super slow, it prolongs things and actually hurts worse than if u just push it straight in.
    The last 3 days of my ivf I had to give myself 3 injections per day instead of just one..ehh not fun but it's all worth it in the end!

    Oh p.s- there's some great tutorials on YouTube with step by step video instructions for giving urself the injections. They're very helpful

    It's not bad and you can do it. But I too freaked the first time I saw it and I made my DH do it.

    It doesn't hurt and you will be okay.

    I totaly go to my RE and have them do it... I don't want to risk doing it wrong, they don't mind, and I like getting the reassurance of schedule from the nurse when I go in.
    Married May 2009, TTC since November 2012 (Together since 2006 ish - had my eyes on him since 2001)
    Me: 32 (33 in May), Him: 37 (January)

    DX: Me: High Prolactin, Possible Autoimmune Disease Issues, though RE not concerned (?)  New RE has a plan!!
           Him: Minor Varicocele, low morphology, slightly low count

    History:

    Beta 5/9/2016 BFP!!
    Embryo transfer scheduled for April 28, 2016 and beta test May 9, 2016 (day after Mother's Day!)
    Transfer Meds include: Lupron Depot (4/1), Minivelle Patch (every 3rd day), Estradiol (3x daily), Amoxicillin, Progesterone in Oil, Methylprednisonlone. Lovenox and baby asprin added after transfer. 

    3/22/16 - Sono Saline ultrasound cyst to be aspirated on 4/1/16 if not cleared up by 3/29 US - It cleared on its own
    Retrieval 3/4/16 - 26 eggs retrieved, 23 mature, 20 fertilized, 14 embryos currently frozen
    Starting IVF Stims on +/- Feb 22, 2016
    HSG scheduled for 1-26-16 - All clear "beautiful uterus" (though inverted)

    Switched clinics and now prepping for IVF in February / March

    Fourth IUI -  CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - December, 2015 - BFN
    Third IUI -  CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - November, 2015 - BFN
    Second IUI - CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - September, 2015 - BFN
    Started Prolactin Medication October 15 - Levels quickly regulated to with in normal range
    First IUI - CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - August, 2015 - BFN
    After no BFPs (ever) First RE/Urologist visit in Feb 2015
    HSG w/ OB, 2014 = all clear
    Trying to conceive since November 2012

    For IUI I took my trigger to the RE and they did it. Didn't hurt a bit! For IVF I have to administer.definitely watch a video!

    Doing the trigger yourself isn't bad at all! I googled how to do the shot just to be sure and did it myself. I did all my own injections when I was stimming too though, so I had time to get used to giving myself shots! The needle is small and it's not really a big deal! Good luck!

    Treatment: Clomid:  50mg, 100mg, 150mg - not successful and not monitored

                      Menopur 75ml (upped to 112.5ml), Ovidrel, & IUI  IUI #1 8/31/2015

    9/15/2015: BFP HCG - 400, 9/17/2015: HCG - 827, 9/21/2015 - HCG 3,327!
    Heartbeat 10/2/2015: 118bpm
    DS: 5/27/2016

    TTC# 2: 12/2017
    BFP: 4/20/2018
    EDD: 12/29/2018

    I agree with @adorkablepixie. I also did all my stimming shots myself except the first one. I used pregnyl, not ovidrel, so the most nerve wrecking part for me was constituting the medicine by mixing the solution in the powder (not sure if ovidrel comes premixed). The shot really was nothing. Just pinch your stonach, put it in quick, release the pinch and inject. Going in and administering didn't hurt at all. The injection site was a little sore the next few days but that's just normal. It's normal to be nervous the first one or two times you have to inject yourself, but there is really nothing to worry about. You'll be fine and do great!!

    Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)
    Clomid 50 mg 3/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    Clomid 50 mg + metformin 4/15 (unmonitored) - BFN 
    First RE appt. 5/15; Natural cycle 5/15 monitored with 2 mature follicles and Pregnyl Trigger (full dose) + prometrium - BFN
    6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
    TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
    TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
    BC for 2 weeks due to cysts
    TI - Injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & full dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 10/15 --> 1 mature follicle --> BFN 
    TI - Last attempt at injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + crinone (AM only) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 11/15 --> 3-4 mature follicles --> BFP!! 11/27/15 @ 13dpo (shockingly, actually waited until then to test)

    Beta #1 @ 16dpo (11/30/15) = 1,075
    Beta #2 @ 19dpo (12/3/15) = 3,150
    One baby: Saw heartbeat @ 5w5d (114 bpm; baby measuring 2.3mm)

    It's not bad at all! I do all of my own injections. I am on my first injectable cycle and I HATE needles! I am so bad that all my blood work is done on the tops of my hands. Well, I have found that having my husband there talking to me works best. He keeps me engaged in conversation so that I do not think about what I am doing. It really works! It's not hard or painful either. My husband is too nervous to do them for me. He's afraid of hurting me, even though it's for a good cause! Good luck, you'll do great!

    We did my shot for the first time last month. Originally the doc was going to do it but at my study they wanted to wait a few more days for growth. I told my husband to watch the video and had him do it! I'm a fainter and there was no way I could have done it. With that said, it didn't hurt at all. There was a pinch but I think a blood draw is worse. Good luck!

    Ovidrel was easy compared to the menopur and bravelle I've also had to do.  Those stung some going in.  But I could hardly feel the ovidrel!

    If you're like me and have a little chub around your belly, that makes it easier.  It just goes straight into the fatty part near your belly button (I have a well-cushioned spot to the side and down a bit.)  If you're skinny, then pinch the skin.  The youtube videos will show you what I mean.

    The nerves you feel in anticipation is way worse than the experience itself.  So easy!
    Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
    Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
    TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
    2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
    Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
    Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!  
    fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! 
    Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

    @KLake42 - Thanks, that's very helpful! I am definitely not skinny - wow, I think this might be the first time I'm actually HAPPY about that! LOL!

    I literally just gave myself the Ovidrel trigger and I didn't even feel the needle going in. Taking it out hurt more :) Good luck!
